So the Pirates, Tea Parties, and Susan Boyle crap all makes so much sense now.
It seemed like the MSM was in a fury to keep us distracted. Now I know why:

http://www.aclu.org/safefree/general/olc_memos.html

Abuse of Power:
The Bush Administration's Secret Legal Memos

On April 16, 2009, the Department of Justice released four secret memos used by the Bush administration to justify torture.

For more than five years, the ACLU and other advocacy organizations have been seeking the release of Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) memos that supplied the basis for the Bush administration's interrogation, detention, rendition, and warrantless surveillance policies.

The OLC, which is a component of the Justice Department, was created to provide objective legal advice to the Attorney General and to resolve legal disputes among federal agencies. During the Bush administration, however, the OLC became a facilitator for illegal government conduct, issuing dozens of memos meant to permit gross violations of domestic and international law. Some of these memos have become public through leaks to the media and through the ACLU's litigation under the Freedom of Information Act. But most of them are still secret.

The Obama administration should release the still-secret memos. As the ACLU wrote in a January 28, 2009 letter to the OLC, the release of the memos would allow the public to better understand the legal basis for the Bush administration's national security policies; to better understand the role that the OLC played in developing, justifying, and advocating those policies; and to participate more meaningfully in the ongoing debate about national security, civil liberties, and human rights.

1. Well, that doesn't make sense. If that were the case, then the "evil MSM" would have better
coordinated with the gubmint to release the memos during LIVE COVERAGE, DIRECT FROM USS BAINBRIDGE of the entire pirate incident, along with interviews with the marksmen and continuous loop replays of three heads exploding like watermelons. That way, no one would have noticed them. But they didn't do that. In fact, the memos were released in such a way to provide maximum coverage of the story.

If they wanted to hide this, they wouldn't have released it on a SLOW news day, and in time for the Sunday Talk Shows to make it Topic Number One.

I think most people can hold more than one thought in their head, be it memos, pirates and yes, even Susan Boyle.

7. I just listened to discussion on it on CNN...
with Gergen and Tobin, Anderson Cooper's show. It was quite good albeit too short, imo.

9. Better contact the admins and have them shut down the DU Lounge
And probably a bunch of the other forums here on DU. There might be people in there who think that they can actually entertain themselves AND pay attention to the serious topics we're facing. What idiots.

:sarcasm:

11. It was the lead story on the BBC this morning
and is no. 2 on their website at the moment (no. 1 being a British-specific story about councils and surveillance).

14. Turn on your TV. You might be disappointed that the MSM is talking about this subject.
They're not ignoring it at all.

15. Let's do!!!!!
Now the argument shifts from "no coverage" to "not enough." I suppose that had to happen...because the MSM "IS" covering this. Darn!

Tell you what--this Sunday, you record FACE THE NATION, THIS WEEK, MEET THE PRESS, and LAST WORD on CNN, get out yor stopwatch, do some timing, and you report back to us how much time they spent on this topic, and how much time they spent on Susan Boyle.

:eyes:

8. Yes. Because we are too stupid to think about more than one thing
God forbid anyone should get ANY amount of pleasure or amusement during their day. I suppose we should all put on sackcloth, cover ourselves in ashes, run out into the streets and cut ourselves?
