Ever wonder what happened to Lionel?
Me neither. :D

In fact, I'd be surprised if even the most avid Saturday AM Air America radio buff still knows who he is/was. Still, let's find out, by visiting a demographic site for his stats.

Random phrases from the link:

This site reaches approximately 3,272 U.S. monthly people. The site is popular among a more educated, 35-49 crowd.

Is This Your Site?

No, thank dog. I'd kill myself. :D

1. Please forgive the dumb question...
But just who is Lionel?

5. He was (is?) far and away the most relentlessly boring and pompously grating radio host in
Edited on Fri Apr-17-09 12:56 AM by Jim Sagle
Air America history. He aired Saturday AM on Chicago's WCPT until someone in management realized no one was listening anymore. He had the indignity of being replaced by Michael Feldman's Whaddya Know? Of course, that's even more boring.

Lionel was longwinded and scratchy-voiced, and most likely a closet conservative - par for the Air America course at that time.

I just realized this thread may well reflect its subject all too well. Sorry 'bout that.

Your question is not at all dumb. It reflects a bullet well dodged. :)

8. Thank you! You are too kind!
I don't listen to AM radio at all...

My tastes run to FM, and classical music, intermixed with rock.

Talk radio has no interest for me...

:hi:

9. they canned the guy who was easily the best on the network for him
Mark Green wanted all self-important boomers, all the time

so they dumped Sam Seder, the guy Al Franken called "the future of the network," just as he was acheiving crossover success and becoming a familiar face on cable (right when Maddow was taking off as well)

they could have had two breakout stars, instead we have no one listening and drive-time filled by Ron "Alan Colmes" Kuby

If it weren't for Bobby and Pap on "Ring of Fire," I wouldn't bother with AAR these days

and some other talent as well.

Just now I saw this at http://airamerica.com/lionel/blog/2009/apr/08/stay-tuned-lionel:

Stay Tuned for Lionel
By Lionel

In the New York Daily News . . .

Lionel . . . remains active online at www.airamerica.com, and program director Bill Hess says AA and Lionel are formulating a new broadcast show that will be announced soon.

Stay tuned. Read my blogs daily, get plenty of sleep, just say no sometimes and feel free to drop a line.

Yeah, I'll do that...maybe while waiting for a toothache to subside until the meds kick in.
