The Conservatives' Dangerous Game of Hate and Consequences

Empty of better ideas -- of any ideas -- of how to remain relevant, the reactionary wing of the conservative movement has chosen to quit faking respectability and get back to doing what they do best: cranking up the hate to eleven.

This is the week we have lived:

A week when Texas Governor Rick Perry -- a man with presidential aspirations -- gets comfortable being flippant about the idea secession, raising the specter of both the anti-civil rights movement and the Civil War.

A week when Texas Republican State Rep. Betty Brown (what is it with Texas?) told a hearing on voter registration that if Asians wanted to avoid problems at the polls they needed to change their names to something that's "easier for us to deal with."

A week when Illinois Republican Congressman Mark Kirk said he thought the people of Illinois "are ready to shoot" anyone who's going to raise taxes.

A week when the Caucasian Stepin Fetchit Glenn Beck -- which is more of a slam against Lincoln Perry than it is Glenn -- thought it was humorous to take on the guise of our president and pantomime him pouring gas on the average citizen before setting a match to him. .........(more)

1. Be careful, you might be accused of being the actual racist for pointing
to an article that mentions the racism behind these tea party asshats.

It never ceases to amaze me how far down a rancid hole some people will stick their head in order to avoid the painfully obvious racial overtones on so many things that go on in this country. There are signs where they are trying to scare the shit out of people with the concept of white slavery (which apparently is scarier than just enslaving black people. That apparently is just fine and dandy.) and a known and openly white supremacist group actively recruiting at these moron conventions but we're not supposed to think that race has anything to do with the amount of contempt and fear being ratcheted up.

:banghead:

Sometimes I wonder why I bother.

That notwithstanding it's a good article which people would do well to read.

Regards

2. The deep denial when it comes to racism always stuns me......
..... and it's not like you have to look to hard to find it at these tea parties. They're loud and proud about it.

3. The majority of people I know who don't like Obama
do so because he is (half) black.

4. Indeed.
But since there's no white sheets or crosses being burned it's not really there. I am constantly irritated by the amount of thickheadedness exhibited by so-called progressives when it comes to race.

And judging by the amount of interest this article has gotten (not surprisingly) we shan't be having any conversation about the racism in the tea parties here.

It is truly fucked up when pointing out the racism in the tea party "protests" gets you accused of being racist and a post pointing to a thoughtful article on the subject sinks like a rock yet a bullshit OP accusing Jamie Foxx of being racist because someone on his show called some talentless teenybopper twit a "white bitch" goes on and on and on. (Of course Foxx's own sexist rant against said talentless teenybopper isn't being highlighted because someone is more intent on accusing a black man of being a racist based on what his guest said rather than dealing with the blatant sexism in what he actually said. But I digress)
