Do you believe a majority believe as Cheney when he said
"It is better to be feared than to be loved"? Torture most definitely creates fear and not much love if any and so far the very great majority of US citizens don't seem at all bothered by it. Only those on the Left seem at all concerned the USA tortured people..

1. Cheney's pronouncements are one part basic aggression and one part
self-delusion.

If he was feared it is because he was ruthless. To say that fear is the 'better' state is actually a confession of soulless brutality.

2. Fear
Engendering fear worldwide seems to result in the unintended consequences like the worst attack on American Soil in history.

I know we lost three or four WTC buildings and a tiny piece of the Pentagon, but, boy, it is so worth it because America is so feared!

And the people that fear us are very patient. A damn good recipe for perpetual war!

Getting the world to fear all of America is a really good thing!

4. My understanding is that was a debate between the gods on Mt. Olympus

I don't know about what a majority of Americans feel, but I do strongly believe Cheney believes he was part of that debate.

5. I wonder how Cheney is feeling...
about the released memos. I so hope that if anything is done regarding the crimes of this administration, Fox News or Roger Ailes, is one in the party of the accused.

7. Cheney probably wasn't the first to say that
It could well have been Heinrich Himmler, Adolph Hitler, Ghengis Khan, Joseph Stalin or a myriad of other villains throughout history.

8. I am sure you are correct but that isn't the point or the question
The question asked was do you think the Majority of Americans believe that? It would appear that they do from the complete lack of response to the torture memos that have just been released.

9. I don't know if a majority of Americans
believe that, I'm sure the 28%er's do and a smattering of others but I am perplexed as to the lack of outrage over the memos. Maybe its just outrage overload, so many outrages is 8 short years. I don't really know.

12. More like: it is better to be feared than to fear.
Cheney isn't emotionally complete, and may not have the capability of fearing. But for most of us, we would rather be Freddy Krueger than a teen who was just out there for a little sex. Why do you think he and Jason Voorhes are heroes to millions of movie fans? Terrorizing and killing people is seen as a better option than being terrorized or killed.

Face it, people are bastards, and will be bastards if given any chance at it.
