"In Iran we don't have homosexuals"
Edited on Sun Apr-19-09 09:41 AM by Tim01
I came across this video again. Most people have probably seen it before. It is the ruler of Iran telling an American crowd at Columbia University that Iran does not have homosexuals. And he is serious about this.
It kind of blows me away every time I see this, this guy is just nutty. I think it is a great indicator of the kind of person who is working on obtaining nuclear weapons.
And a great reminder of how good we have it here, compared to how things could be.

4. well
we don't put them 2 death in a state sponsered official type of way. But homosexuals get assulted and even murdeded all the time RIGHT HERE in the U.S.A as a result of their lifestyle. I mean I'm sure we have it better than alot of places in the world, BUUUUUUUT, that's not saying much when you look at the state of the world.

6. You started a thread opining that without religion there
would be no laws and now your crying about gays in America? Do you think religion has played a positive part in the treatment of Gays in America?

7. Yes gay bashing does happen.
But I've never seen it personally, I think that says a lot.
I live in a real country type of place too.
Some of my friends are gay, one is transgender. We all go out sometimes. I am positive I am more concerned there is going to be trouble than they are.

3. As bigoted and nutty as he is, he is not the person working on
obtaining nukes. The Supreme Council control him, and the nuclear process.

5. Ok, don't know that much about Iran.
So, is he more of a figure head?
He does pretty accurately describe the attitude in Iran about being gay. It is so bad they will kill you if they find you out.
The fact that gays can't marry is wrong.
But I've never had to stand with any gay friends against the threat of mob violence. Not the case with my black friend and his white girlfriend.I thought we all might die that day.

9. Islam and the Sharia are how Iran achieves that very dubious distinction
There will be those who blame all religions and all fundamentalists, but that is intellectual dishonest and a cop out. When have gays been stoned by Quakers or Baptists in this country as part of the legal system? While I am no friend of the hard core xtians, on an absolute scale they are a markedly lower risk to the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness of gays and others than the Islamists and the Sharia.
