28. He's not a hack, he is a tool
Much worse than a hack is the establishment tool. The person of mediocre talent who rises in a professional hierarchy because he or she is willing to do and say the right things, in this case the things that support establishment intentions to undermine the reformist tax policy objectives of a (generally) centrist President.

The major media, owned by 5 mega-multinationals, first and foremost represent the interests of the global establishment class (the owning/investing/political class that appropriates unfair share of the value that the rest of us create -- the vampire-class, if you will). Those news readers they put in front of the cameras -- rest assured that they share the same values and internal narratives that their editors embrace, and rest assured that the editors share the same values/narratives that their CEOs embrace, and on up the line. This is not a conspiracy, but simply the working out of the systemic Propaganda Model (Chomsky) in our near-monopolized media.

Yes, Olberman and Maddow are anamolies. MSNBC is a major media outlet, yet there they are, establishment-criical journalists challenging the "official narrative" on a nightly basis. A beautiful thing! I haven't digested how they can appear on MSNBC, owned by munitions-manufacturing-war-mongering GE, if indeed the GE boardroom intentionally and successfully narrows the permissible agenda to just those things that support an environment within which GE profits. Further, this is the network that essentially ended Ashliegh Banfield's career after she took journalistic stances at odds with the "official narrative". Anyone have thoughts why Olberman/Maddow can thrive yet Banfield could be banned just a few short years ago? Is it all simply about the money?

26. Exactly.. BooHoo poor David... so sorry YOUR taxes will go up.
If I had a magic wand, I would send him to spend 6 months surviving on the minimum wage.. BUT, during the ordeal he would not know that it would end at the end of that time.

Then he could have his exalted position back to use for good and not evil.

18. I agree. This is the Republicans' fault.
They're the ones who wrote the bill this way.

Whose idea was it to start writing laws - of any kind - with expiration dates anyway?

11. I thought he said he would do exactly that, while campaigning. Something about getting rid of them
to help pay for his economic stimulus plan? Maybe I misunderstood what he was saying.

13. He did say that..
but I don't think he ever specified if he was going to let them expire or immediately undo the deed. When the economy tanked the reasoning for letting them expire emerged as the preferred method.

He means the family Gregory's taxes will increase. That means Obama is evil.

Obama doesn't have to do anything. It was the Republicans that made the law.

It could be a problem he might approach during his second term, but for now we're stuck with the timeline.

16. Armey was revolting today (as always) and I think Harold Ford did pretty well.
He was outnumbered, but he didn't back down and made some good points.

Gregory also let Armey go on about how "successful" the tea parties were. "Freedom Works didn't sponsor the rallies, but we did provide technical assistance. They were all locally organized." Right. I belive that, Dick.

24. Which is precisely WHY Bush "cut" them immediately after taking office
Edited on Sun Apr-19-09 12:05 PM by SoCalDem
The whole issue should be laid out as a RESTORATION....of sensible taxation.

Taxation when we were at our zenith of power should be the ultimate goal...when was that? Eisenhower,, Heads would truly explode if we managed that one:)

"The Govt" only GETS money from tariffs & taxes,.. "Free Trade", Nafta/Cafta pretty much eliminated tariffs, and the winnowing away of taxes collected from the people most able to pay, has stuck the knife in even further.

It's no wonder why poor people have only gotten poorer, and why the middle class has all but disappeared. Upward mobility pretty much evaporated for the masses in the middle of the middle, over the years, since there has been less and less available to them every decade..

We've devolved into a mean, petty society, where every crumb is being fought over by more and more peasants, and the ones at the top who skim off all the cream...well they are fatter & sassier than ever, and are thoroughly enjoying the "show"..
