Focus on the Family is opening an office in D.C.
Great. Just fucking great. :(

By Paul Bedard, Washington Whispers

It's among the nation's biggest charities and evangelical ministries, but the politically influential Focus on the Family has never played much in Washington. Now that's changing, part of the shift of control from founder James Dobson to President Jim Daly. For the first time, the conservative Focus is opening a Washington office. Tim Goeglein, the group's vice president of external relations, says his job is not primarily to beat up on President Obama's policies but to get Focus's mission better known. "If social conservatism is the spear, then Focus is the tip of the spear," says Goeglein. He is uniquely qualified. A senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation, he was former President Bush's aide de camp on conservative and Christian issues. "Tim brings with him a wealth of experience and relationships that will prove invaluable to our efforts to defend the sanctity of human life, protect the institution of marriage, and ensure the religious-freedom rights of Christians," Daly says. "He will be our eyes and ears in Washington."

3. I was wrong -- they were in CA before CO
Here's an excerpt from a news story from 1990:

El Pomar Foundation has lured the nation's largest Christian radio ministry - and possibly 800 jobs - to Colorado Springs with a $4 million grant, foundation chairman William Hybl announced Thursday.

James Dobson's Focus on the Family - a 13-year-old Pomona, Calif.-based ministry that emphasizes traditional family values - plans to buy at least 50 acres of land along Interstate 25 using the grant, said Paul Nelson, executive vice president of Focus on the Family, in a telephone interview.

The ministry has a $27 million payroll, and Nelson said he expects about half its 750 employees to move to Colorado Springs. After the move, the ministry will hire 425 employees here, expanding

7. Well I wish the Neandertals would get out of CO!!!!!
If you people from other states could experience being around one of these freaks..."jeddediah, Isaiah, Jeremaiah...time for lunch..." that is what you here at the parks in the Co springs area. It is the creepiest shit ever. Who the hell would name a kid Jeddediah? You can't even hang out at a park and enjoy yourself without having to have your personal sound space poisoned by idiocy. The poor kids, and most of them are homeschooled too!

9. so much just wrong with this picture
"the group's vice president of external relations, says his job is not primarily to beat up on President Obama's policies ...." Not PRMARILY to beat up on President Obama's policies? Gee, nice to know that it will only be the secondary agenda - what business is it of Focus to beat up on Presidential policy at all?
And,who is threatening their religious freedoms? It should be a major effort to strip these people of tax exempt status asap. BTW, recent reports said they were low on funds (spent soooo much $ fighting prop. 8 in CA) that they laid off much of their staff. Wonder where they get funds to move to pricey DC?
