Sources: Wiretap Recorded Rep. Harman Promising to Intervene for AIPAC

Rep. Jane Harman , the California Democrat with a longtime involvement in intelligence issues, was overheard on an NSA wiretap telling a suspected Israeli agent that she would lobby the Justice Department reduce espionage-related charges against two officials of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, the most powerful pro-Israel organization in Washington.

Harman was recorded saying she would “waddle into” the AIPAC case “if you think it’ll make a difference,” according to two former senior national security officials familiar with the NSA transcript.

In exchange for Harman’s help, the sources said, the suspected Israeli agent pledged to help lobby Nancy Pelosi , D-Calif., then-House minority leader, to appoint Harman chair of the Intelligence Committee after the 2006 elections, which the Democrats were heavily favored to win.

Seemingly wary of what she had just agreed to, according to an official who read the NSA transcript, Harman hung up after saying, “This conversation doesn’t exist.”

3. So members of Congress were spied on by the Bush Administration
Edited on Mon Apr-20-09 01:03 AM by Cali_Democrat
Gonzo and the Bush cronies may have even blackmailed her because they wanted her support for warrantless wiretapping.

WOW!!!!

This doesn't excuse Harman at all. In fact she should definitely be reprimanded.

But one cant help but look in awe at the vastness of the Bush Administration's criminal enterprise.

They were a full blown crime syndicate.

6. I agree.
What Harman said requires scrutiny (did she act on her conversation) and she should face the consequences.

But the wiretapping of members of congress is so wrong on so many levels.

9. 10:1 the media will ignore it if they can, or minimize in any way possible
if they can't ignore it.

There is no way they will let this grow wings.

5. Ok folks, this was a court authorized tap
according to the article

aka a FISA tap

The suspected Israeli agent is not a US citizen

Yes, readying between lines

And that is the problem with FISA taps...

That said, if she indeed got caught in a FISA tap, and gonzo ordered the probe stopped... that is where the blackmail comes in.

Oooh boy, that is where the scandal comes

10. Of course they are. They are all for rent to their big money contributors
and lobbyists. And don't think that Obama is any different. He's a politician just like the rest.

12. And you know this how? The guy who raised more money from small contributors ever

is bought and paid for by lobbyists?

The one who is laying down the law re the West Bank?

And you can predict the future that this won't be investigated, how?

14. They money he raised from small contributors
is dwarfed by what he raised from big donors.

And look who he is appointing to key positions. RIAA lawyers, Monsanto lobbyists, Free Trade Advocates, etc.

He hasn't laid down any law in the west bank. He has stated a opening position. Let's see if he can hold it, or even if he wants to hold it.

I'm predicting that if this is investigated it will be through no help from Obama because he's already said repeatedly that he's not in favor of an investigation.

That's how I know what I'm talking about. How do you know what you're talking about other than faith and wishful thinking?

11. The question to ask is...
Who did Jane Harman piss off and why are they releasing this wiretap on her now????

They've got all of our politicians wiretapped and bribed at this point. They're all owned. So, let's
just accept that each and every politician in our land (except Kucinich and Conyers) is dirty and that
the powers-that-be have the wiretaps and the video to prove it all.

So...why do they want to harm Jane Harman?

What did she do to offend the dark overlord criminals?

13. I think it's the reverse. Congress may be rebelling & Harman is a casualty
From the CQ article, it seems that everyone is thoroughly disgusted with what went on -- including some intelligence and law enforcement officials, who, off the record called it the deepest form of corruption.

These are drip, drip, drips of facts about how the Bush administration spied on Congress in order to rally the public and bureaucracy to dismantle that system.
