"A nation without its history is like a person without their memory..."
Paraphrasing a quote attributed to Arthur Schlesinger by Jon Meacham on MSNBC this morning.

The historian Schlesinger had stated that we could not know where we are going if we do not know where we have been. Such is the importance of history.

They were discussing this in the context of investigating the torture memos and understanding where the decisions to torture originated and expanded. Whether or not people are convicted of crimes, it is critical that we find out the truth. It is for the good of the nation.

We cannot sweep this under the rug. We have a duty to find out the truth and to understand our course in history.
