How do you upload images (i.e. a photograph) to DU?

I bought an old book at the local flea market titled----

"Scenes In The Philippines, Cuba, Puerto Rico, The Hawaiian Islands And Scenes Relating to Soldiers"

A hard cover book filled with photos of the US wars relating to the above areas from the late 1800's to early 1900's.

There is a photo of American soldiers water torturing a Filipino during the Philippine Insurrection. The blurb under the photo goes as follows----

"The Water Cure. (A harmless Method of Torture Alleged to have been Occasionally Practiced by Soldiers in the Philippines as One of the Necessary Accompaniments of War)"

1. You can't, but you can post one on imageshack.us and reference it

2. You don't.

You upload them to your own website or any of the
many image-hosting services that will allow "deep
linking" (not all do!) and then you include a URL to
that location within your DU post.

Then you hope that a million DU views of your photo
don't eat all of your allowable bandwidth on the site
where you hosted your photo.

3. You should open a free account one of the photo hosting sites...

like photobucket or flickr. You then upload your pics to your account at that site, and then post the link to the photo into your DU message.

I use photobucket. The pic in my sig line is hosted there, along with a couple hundred other pics that I've posted here at DU over the years.

4. How do you put that image in your sig line?

6. You can add a signature to your profile...

Click the "Options" icon at the top of the page, and then the Edit Profile selection. At the very bottom is a space where you can put signature in each message. By copying the http address for the image (hosted at photobucket) into my signature, it shows up with every message. :hi:
