The main thing Obama needs to consider regarding Bush/Cheney and torture:
These are the people that said: You are either with us or against us.

Since Obama will never be considered as being "with them," then he really should think about how he needs to get them out of here for good.

The Inner Wheels of Karmic Life are handing him the Bad Boys on a platter. He can dither; he can let his Attorney General dither.

Or he can bravely go forward with indictments.

But if he lets them escape the Cage that Fate has prepared for them, Obama better not be too surprised if Bush, Cheney, Rove (or others on that sad boat) don't come back and bite him up.

1. Obama is not a prosecutor. He is the President. It is not his job to prosecute wrong doing.

The Justice Dept needs to investigate and bring charges if there is criminal activity.

I want Obama working on health care, the economy, education, the environment, jobs and many other things. Let the Justice Dept work on the torture investigations.

2. I agree with you totally
This is up to the Justice Dept. Obama must stay out of this as much as possible otherwise it will consume his presidency. The economy has shut down and people are really in trouble. I do hope Holder appoints a special prosecutor but I think it is only 50/50 at this point.

6. Indeed. And DoJ was complicit in torture = special prosecutor coming right up.
The only hold-up, I'm betting, is finding who can do this and do it properly.

I wonder if Bill Clinton is busy? Ooops, conflict. His wife is SoS.
Is Al Gore an attorney? Mr. Gore, would you be interested in investigating Bush and Cheney torture, and other crimes?

Anyone else you would trust?

3. Okay, that' s not an unreasonable answer.

But help me out here.

If Phillip Zelikow thinks that Bush/Cheney Rove et al were legally wrong in their view of proceeding with torture as a legal mechanism, then there seems to be some decent thinking behind the notion that the actions of Bush/Cheney Rove et al were wrong, and perhaps even that those who followed those actions were wrong.

But should Holder not agree with Zelikow, but instead with Bush/Cheney et al, does that not disturb you?

4. Like I said, this is not in Obama's court, but in Holder's.

It is my feeling that the whole country needs to understand the truth about the torture no matter who or what was involved.

I want justice to be served.
