Man accused of severely beating a barking dog
BY KATIE FRETLAND
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

Investigators say a man frustrated by a neighbor's barking dog beat the pet so severely a veterinarian had to euthanize it.

The 4-year-old rat terrier named Pompoo had been tethered on Monday morning outside an apartment near 75th and Howard Streets, while one of its owners, Michael Snyder, walked the couple's other rat terrier, Suzie Q.

Sometime during 20 minutes that Michael Snyder and Suzie Q were gone, an upstairs neighbor, 57-year-old Kevin Cleavenger, banged loudly on the couple's door complaining about Pompoo's barking, said Catalina Snyder, 77.

The Snyders said that Cleavenger had complained before to the landlord about the dog's barking.

She refused to answer the door.

"I was scared," Catalina Snyder said. "His eyes were big." She said she saw Cleavenger grab the 10-pound Pompoo and slam the dog four times into the ground.

Pompoo didn't move.

2. Maybe so, but it doesn't give anyone a right to viciously kill the dog now does it?
