Governor prepares NY for Swine Flu
http://www.9wsyr.com/news/local/story/Governor-prepares-NY-for-Swine-Flu/xKNiqO7_xUac8kpplUe66w.cspx

Syracuse, NY (WSYR-TV) Local health departments and hospitals are on heightened awareness for the Swine Flu. Governor David Paterson asked the Department of Health to activate it's staff following eight reported cases of the flu in New York City.

The Swine Flu displays severe respiratory symptoms. If you are concerned or have any questions, you can call 1-800-808-1987.

The Health Department is reminding people to wash their hands, use a tissue if you are coughing or sneezing and avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Also, avoid sharing forks, spoons, toothbrushes and towels.

I won't believe you until I see you doing both on you tube
:) Walking and chewing gum at the same time? I might just have to send that to Mythbusters and have them cover it on their show..

6. Actually he has
he basically put the state's health system on alert, increased mandatory hospital reporting and has the head epidemiologist doing what they do best

track it...

Here is a piece of factoid that most don't realize, hospitals have levels of reporting and in normal times they just don't report everything

10. I am the worst of cynics
but perhaps since I used to be an emergency worker I have a clue of what is happening

The best advise I can give you is... don't panic

Wash hands, early and often

And avoid people who are sick or crowded places until the storm blows over

And if this proves to be what it may... be prepared to spend some time at home.

Right now they are doing what may actually short circuit it at point of origin... but when the finger pointing does start, I am betting some people will point fingers at health authorities for not acting sooner... but right now they are up to it and have taken the steps needed.

Now if the metro stops running, then the shit has officially hit the fan

7th case today confirmed in CA

http://uk.reuters.com/article/marketsNewsUS/idUKN2546290520090425

also a woman is reported to have had swine flu April 4. She seems to be fully recovered.

I agree, to panic is the worst thing anyone can do. I'm glad that the CDC has set up in Mexico to monitor the situation.

Now, staying at home, I could handle! :-)

Good health to all.

But my mom shops in Fresh Meadows where St. Francis Prep is and I intend to stay nervous.

15. CDC has warned that this no death environment will not stay the same as it spreads
as to your mom

It is deadly, to the same population the 1918 epidemic was, 25-40 y\o

This time around our parents might be safer than us

and basic health care, such as washing hands is extremely useful in breaking the infection cycle

I intend to wash hands more early and often than usual
