Thunderstorms and tornadoes are screwy weather for Kansas in spring?

3. for me...I hate tornados and my DU peeps know it and talk me through it
if it were up to me, I would live in the basement during the spring, but I have a daughter who needs me to stay calm, so I post on DU and you all keep me sane

I used to freak out about heavy weather too, so I feel ya. I'm from Central Texas originally, so I've seen my share.

15. Pinicon Ridge park was devastated
I don't know if you know the park? It's in northern Linn county. Just saw the news clip. Sounds like the campers all got out just in time and came back to find camper parts all over the place. No one was hurt fortunately. This is going to be a long night......

There is a tremendous amount of energy in the air right now

10. yes I know
and I HATE it

but now that we have our electricity back it is not so scary

we lost power about 3 then the tornado sirens went off two times

now we have power and the warnings are gone, but we have straight line winds 50-80

but we are not out of the weather or woods at all

tornado watch until 3 AM and looks like more will pop up all night

11. we had some crazy weather in Georgia a couple of nights ago
Golf ball sized hail. It looked like we had a funnel starting in the sky directly above our patio. Rain (as my Mum used to say) "like a cow pissing on a flat rock" for an hour, then hail again, then winds, then more weird clouds, hail - lather rinse repeat.

It ain't just Kansas having crazy weather...

13. We couldn't hear the sirens when they tested and last year we were hit by
straight line winds off a tornado spotted near us. I hate tornados also! That is why I like winter.

17. Hi I was worried about you since
you all caught quite a bit already.

It is not here yet but boy oh boy is it bearing down. It is almost black outside. Still it is out a ways, maybe 30-60 minutes away.

We had to go to the basement yesterday, well I stood out in the rain and watched.

Stay safe Greenbriar.

that gave you those winds is almost here. Oops, there was just a tornado warning issued and it is not far and headed for us...time to gather the cats and dogs. We have about 20 minutes.

19. I've lived in Kansas my whole life and have never seen a tornado.
The closest I ever came to one, was back in the 70s when I was a kid, and I was at the mall in Emporia. We were going to stay for a movie, but my sisters had to get back home to another town for some school or church function. The tornado hit the mall and theater about an hour after we left.

Other than that, I've never even been close to one.

25. We had "Kansas" weather, what with roofs and awnings blowing off and
telephone polls leaning over, in Ontario last night. Was really creepy.

27. Stay safe...
I have a brother in SW Missouri and another brother in Huntsville, AL and so I keep an eye on the weather for tornados. I would love to retire back there but not without a basement and a weather radio and backup generator.
