1. Yeah it is spreading I also pointed earlier the story
on mandatory involuntary quarantine

Part of it, but if this (when if this is it) it becomes mandatory and generalized, it will require federal troops to enforce

4. I noticed that the Mexican fatality figures are only hospital deaths.
One of the news programs pointed out that Mexico doesn't have enough people to check out possible flu deaths at home.

8. That's part of the problem
the system is more than just overwhelmed by now

If things get that bad that fast here, the system will also break down

Of course at a several points of magnitude greater

3. I know facts are confused with mass hysteria
Edited on Mon Apr-27-09 11:09 PM by nadinbrzezinski
by the way, that site is only reporting HEADLINES from the World Wide Web

At times it takes a little effort to track the actual story

But hey, if facts are mass hysteria, I guess pigs can indeed fly, no pun

Oh and I forgot

6. An article about Veratect...
Interesting start-up that models itself after the National Weather Servce (but for bio-threats). I've noticed that they are reporting more than just headlines... They also dive deep into discussion boards for first hand accounts...

Using its artificial intelligence and global network of multilingual analysts, Veratect detected the first indications of the influenza outbreak in Mexico at the end of March. As such, it was the first to alert the Emergency Operations Center and Global Disease Detection Center at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Veratect CEO Bob Hart. It also passed the information on to health officials in Colorado, Nevada and Washington state.
Hart compares Veratect's 24/7 disease tracking system -- which includes 30 professionals in operations centers in Kirkland and Arlington, Virginia -- to a fire lookout.
"(We) allow our customers to react to the first wisps of smoke rather than only being about to respond to a fully involved forest fire," he says.

7. Woah, my state is "involuntarily" isolating people to test for swine flu?
Didn't realize that NC was doing that. Hope there are more details on that soon.
