2. Yup. I've watched every episode so far.
It's absolutely heart-wrenching.

The U.S. is a champ when it comes to ethnic cleansing.

4. The name John Ross sounds so familiar to me
but I've never heard this story.

7. I feel like I don't know a damn thing watching this series.
I love the part about the language and writing their own Constitution.

12. There are many new names, many new stories
about Indian actors in these events that I've never heard before. Instead of just saying that something happened, they're telling who did it and how.

8. I knew a little bit. Long before DU existed, I used to run my own forum
on American Indian issues. My Significant Other was an Anishninabe historian (he died in November 2000). I'd been involved with various tribal cultural and political matters to one degree or another since the mid-70s. I learned long ago to see the world through other eyes, and learned a lot of indigenous history.

11. I'm not sure why or how I started reading or taking courses.

But that was a long time ago. At some point, someone taught me to make pine needle baskets. I enjoyed that.

It's funny because my grandmother grew up in the white oligarchy in El Salvador so "indio" was not a compliment in her house. The next generation had to reach back and find what had been lost, obscured by God knows how many generations of becoming white and Spanish. What a trip.

It is a great overview of how the US was "acquired".

14. The attention to detail from languages to food preparation
to little touches like children's toys has been cool.

15. It is by far some of the best television I've seen in a long time.
The details are fantastic. I will buy it when it comes in a box set.
