Conservative Celebs

Well, I am off to toss out my Meatloaf albums......Oh, wait....

Reads like a who's who of D list celebs. Only disappointment I saw was Robert Duvall. Great actor. Apparently not too bright, though. Biggest surprise, James Earl Jones. This may all be common knowledge. Never really paid attention. Apparently, country music singers and super models aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer. Shocking. Anyway, I have seen posts about wingnut celebs in the past and thought it might be interesting.

edit...spelling

2. Robert Duvall is not too bright because he's conservative.
:eyes:

Have you read DU lately? One's political affiliation is no guarantee of intelligence or lack thereof.

4. Agree. He's the best dramatic film actor this country has produced in a long time.
Right up there with Tracy and March.

7. Well......
I don't know him personally so obviously can't comment for sure on his intelligence, but when I see that he is not just registered as a republican but does all the narration for their political videos, it makes me think he is pretty committed to the cause. It's sad to me because I have always like his movies.

3. Some may be republicans as in Eisenhower.. or moderate.
Not every rupublican is an extreme fundie.. which is why you now see so few identify themselves as republican. the extremists make everyone uncomfortable.

6. That also is correct. There are a lot of reasonable, smart Republicans
who don't like the religious right nor GWB.

9. Of course there are
some are in my family and some are friends. But still, I struggle to understand from my point of view. I know I should not have prejudices, but we all do, and one of mine is with folks with and (R) next to their name.

Or just don't care.

Keep feeling.

5. This Is An Old List...
IRC, it was done in 2006...and things have changed.

I have no problems with a celebrity having their political affiliations known, it's when they try to milk that affiliation (I'm looking at you, Chuck Norris) that they cross a line.

11. ok, not sure about accuracy there.
First two pictures,
Clint was said to back Hillary in Primaries, but I think he could be more republican. Here is what he said.

“I’ve been a Republican because I chose that party at the time of my military service at the beginning of the fifties, and I voted for Eisenhower, but I have a tendency to consider myself more of a ‘free thinker.’ My political choices don’t really fit in with any of the camps, and actually I feel myself to be something of a libertarian, in the sense that I think you have to let people live in peace, respect individual freedoms.”

—interview with Thierry Jousse and Camille Nevers, “Clint Eastwood,” originally published in “Cahiers du cinema,” no. 460 (October 1992): 67-71. Reprinted in “Clint Eastwood: Interviews.” Eds. Robert E. Kapsis and Kathie Coblentz. Jackson: University Press of Mississippi, 1999 (p. 178).

And saying Britney is Republican because she said people should support president in 2002 is silly. But she may have other thoughts on politics

Sara Gellar (Buffy) is listed as Republican, that's disappointing if true, but hey people get to think as they want.

The rest really weren't that big of a surprise.

24. I agree with what you said about Britney
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 09:50 AM by blue_onyx
Her statement was similar to what many non-Republicans were saying at the time. She didn't even say we should support "President Bush"...she said "our president." She probably would have made a similar statement had a Democrat been in office. She's socially liberal considering she told Perez Hilton she supports gay marriage.

12. The moment I stop thinking Robert Duvall is talented because of his political opinion is the moment
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 08:44 AM by YOY
I become a LW version of a FReeper. Same of "the loaf". I do find Kelsey Grammar funny.

Now Ted Nugent? Not really talented in the first place...nothing to do with his political opinions. Dennis Miller...wore out his one trick pony joke a while back.

unless, like denise miller- they make their politics the center of their career, and flush it all down the toilet.

18. In doesn't bother me
First of all, a lot of them are very liberal Republicans, and the wingnuts are not the ones you'd expect. Shirley Jones and Pat Sajak are probably the furthest right of the lot. James Earl Jones, on the other hand, retained the family Republican affiliation, from a time when Black intellectuals in the South were all Republicans.

Many are Republicans the way Bryan Ferry is a British Tory -- they got sick of the litmus-test Democrats in the 1970s and switched over in an act of rebellion. Bruce Willis seems to be this type.

Some are conservative but have championed liberal causes. Charleton Heston was always a strong supporter of civil rights, and IMO those contributions far outweigh his gun politics. Selleck's Republicanism likewise seems to be limited to guns. Mary Tyler Moore is a pretty staunch R, but she is involved with some pretty radical animal rights groups. Kelsey Grammar supports so many liberal causes (e.g., gay marriage) that he might as well be a Democrat. Sly Stallone has been very pro-union. Even Arnold Schwartzenegger is being decried as a RINO by base Republicans in California.

Christians, of course, are expected to be Republicans. (Kirk Cameron, Marie Osmond, Alice Cooper.) As do Southerners, athletes, and CW singers. So, too, are Italian-Americans, and that's a recent development. (Scott Baio, Danny Aiello, Alice Cooper.) Again, many exceptions exist.

Plus, they change affiliation as they will. Most of my impressions come from interviews I read, and some of them may have changed again.

By and by, Republican actors are pretty far from "the Base", usually on several issues, and the same thing can be said for most Hollywood Democrats. I generally don't give it much weight beyond taking notice. Since actors have so little commitment to politics, they tend to be very heterodox, effortlessly.

20. I hate to be the one to defend country music but
you are wrong to conclude that most of the musicians are dimwitted conservatives. There are many notable and prominent exceptions. Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash and his daughter Rosanne, the Dixie Chicks, Steve Earle and many others.

21. You are, of course, correct.
I was not intending to imply that all country music musicians are dimwitted conservatives and I do know that there are intelligent conservatives out there. I was referring to those on the list but also understand that just because they are registered republicans they may be thoughtful, intelligent people. Again, although I know it is wrong, I cannot help put stereotype people when the only information I have is that they are conservative or republican. It tends to paint a picture in my head that is not too pretty. Unfortunately, that is what the last 8 years has done to me.

I will continue to have fond memories of Silver Spoons, enjoy Duvall movies, listen to Kid Rock, and oogle at Electrifying Supermodel Kim Alexis (as noted by John Ratzenberger (Cliff) and Kelsey Grammer (Dr. Frasier Crane) on Cheers, both conservatives). Really just thought the list might be interesting as I have seen similar treads in the past.
