There are so few "mavericks" in Congress. It isn't easy bucking your party. Maybe Specter has now come out of the closet and will be able to embrace his true beliefs?

Funny how that works. The ideological sum of the Senate is unchanged. The PARTISAN shift is towards the "D" but the IDEOLOGICAL shift is to the right. (This 'calculus' is not lost on partisan Democratic leadership.)

There's a reason I'm an INDEPENDENT liberal.
