8. Let me have Collins and Snowe too, and I'll share your enthusiasm.
I remain skeptical, for the moment.

10. I certainly would be, if I were Vice President Biden.
I read somewhere today that Snowe is very unlikely to become a Democrat, for personal reasons, but that Collins could make the switch. I'd be happy with that.

12. You can't seriously be this naive.
You think Specter is going to vote with Dems on issues where we'd need 60 Democratic votes to break a fillibuster?

Okay.. if you think that... Let's start with EFCA.

OH WAIT. :eyes:

20. Even if he does vote with his party...
There are still enough other DINOs around that his vote wouldn't make a difference. Mr. Nelson is the first to come to mind.

It's been noted more than once in this thread, but once more for the cheap seats:

The letters "D" and "R" are just labels. Labels don't break filibusters; votes do. We don't need 60 Democrats in the Senate to break filibusters; we need 60 votes.

What always aggravates me about people leaping up to defend guys like Lieberman or Bayh or (now) Specter is how they say "it's all about the judges!" or "it's all about the filibuster!", ignoring the concrete fact that people get derided as DINOs because they can't be relied on for the important votes. (Case in point: every one of the 5 judges who installed Bush in office were either confirmed by a unanimous vote or by aisle-crossers in a Democratic majority Senate.)

If we weren't filibuster-proof yesterday, we aren't today, and the only chance we're going to have of getting closer to it tomorrow is to unseat Arlen in the primaries (and hope that unlike Lieberman, he doesn't become the closet GOP candidate afterward). Because big-D "Democrat" is just a word.

24. You're speaking too much logic for DU.
You gotta stop that.

sigh....

Of course you're completely right.

Votes is what we don't got.

Specter or not.

Even Franken is a guess... he certainly wasn't a DEM when it came to Electile Dysfunction. :(

Thanks for your sanity. :toast:

23. Not to rain on the parade
But please do not forget that even though the GOP is dying, Evan Bayh is leading a bunch of Dinos to become the new right wing party. This is not time for a victory dance, time to enjoy some schadenfreude, but not a victory dance.
