...we can worry about his being a thorn in our side (which he will often be) later...today, just enjoy the Repuke agony. :toast:

1. It's like being in an auto race...

...and having your opponent's wheel come off and bounce into the open window of your own car. The dead weight penalty of carrying the tire pales in comparison to the damage done to your competition.

2. I've seen several post saying he would be a "thorn"
or he wouldn't vote with the Dems on things we care about, but he would as was a Republican anyway.
I just don't see any problems at all. It's win/win for us. He might surprise a few too.
I think after he gets in the Democratic caucus, he may vote our way more often.

5. There's a primary next year...he has to be a semi-good Dem or
he will get voted out.

9. Hey, that's right! I hadn't thought of that.
Ol' Joe Biden and Ed Rendell will probably remind him of that a few times between now and then. LOL

10. Some of those Dems who were planning on running aren't dropping out
because of today's news...Specter has to be on his good behavior or those Dems will be sure to point it out...like I said, he ain't great, but when Jeffords switched, he was actually decent, so there's hope.

3. I am glad he is changing to our party even though I know that there
are some things he will not vote with us on. However, isn't he for a universal health care program? What other things has he voted with us on?

Hopefully he will convince the two ladies from up north to follow suit. We would love to have them.

7. He voted for the stimulus and judging by the "warm wishes" from the Repukes...
...he's not about to help them out anytime soon.

4. Um, some of them are happy actually ... (??)
I checked in on Pigboy this morning and he had a caller
on who was ready to "pop the cock - er, cork -- on some
port" to celebrate Specter's departure. (And, as Limpbag
later was quoted, "I wish he'd take McCain and his daughter
with him.") I'd expected them to be more concerned, but
they seemed almost GLEEFUL at more proof that their party
is shrinking (?).

8. I believe they call that "whistling past the graveyard"
You know this pissed them off. They can put on all the happy faces they want.

12. Hmmm...what do I want? A champagne cocktail?
That's pretty celebratory.
