Alcohol Tax Proposal Scrapped - creates a hardship for family winegrowers
Alcohol Tax Proposal Scrapped

SACRAMENTO (AP) -- A Democratic state lawmaker is dropping his proposed alcohol levy.

Assem. Jim Beall, D - San Jose, said he withdrew his proposal to impose a 10-cent fee on alcoholic drinks after an initial vote showed scant support.

Other lawmakers said the tax creates a hardship for family winegrowers.

3. In order to do that..........
..they would have to impose a $2 a drink tax on all alcoholic beverages served just to catch up with the tax on cigarettes!

I'm all for it. I don't drink, and I think others who drink in public should have to step outside with the smokers so the rest of us sober people don't have to listen to their drunken blather.

We also need a $20 a six-pack tax on beer or bottle of liquor. This way we can help pay for the people who are injured and damaged by drunk drivers. This is exactly the same mentality they used to raise the tobacco tax.
