11. Not at all. Benedict Arnold was the greatest hero of the American Revolution
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 07:45 PM by Occam Bandage
before his defection to the British. Republicans hated Arlen Specter for being a moderate, and wanted to get rid of his ass before he got sick of their shit and jumped ship. "Benedict Arnold" would be more if Karl Rove or someone similar had a come-to-Jesus moment and announced they'd be helping the Dems from now on.

Though there is one similarity, I suppose. Both defected because they were sick of being continually slighted and snubbed in internal politics (Arnold, despite or perhaps because of his greatness, made many political enemies), and neither felt it was worth putting up with that kind of treatment in the service of what they decided was a doomed cause increasingly in the service of idiots.

Kind of doubly ironic with Arnold, really. Ironic in that if it weren't for his military prowess the French never would have allied with the Americans, with the French alliance being one of the major reasons Arnold left, and doubly ironic in that French support was the reason the Americans won and Arnold and the British lost.
