Poll: Support For Same Sex Marriage Grows
Posted by Brian Montopoli | Comments 498

Forty-two percent of Americans now say same sex couples should be allowed to legally marry, a new CBS News/New York Times poll finds. That's up nine points from last month, when 33 percent supported legalizing same sex marriage.

Support for same sex marriage is now at its highest point since CBS News starting asking about it in 2004.

Twenty-eight percent say same sex couples should have no legal recognition – down from 35 percent in March – while 25 percent support civil unions, but not marriage, for gay couples.

---Up 9% in one month? I wonder what happened.

1. The younger generation is mostly supportive of gay marriage.
Eventually when the old homophobes die off this number will be much higher.

4. 42% supporting gay marriage + 25% for civil unions leaves
a pretty small minority left as the homophobes.

I don't know, with all the hate that's been shown to queers from Beck and O'Reilly these last few weeks, its really surprising...

Or maybe not! :)

Peace

3. I always use the term Marriage Equality.
When people realize that opposing same-sex marriage is opposing equality, they rethink their position. Some just honestly never considered their anti-gay marriage opinion as opposing equalities for law-abiding, tax-paying citizens.

6. Iowa and Connecticut baby!! That's what happened.
I'm Series!! Follow my semi-awake reasoning.

I think a fair amount of people are lemmings. The go with the flow on the issue at hand. And currently there seems to be a trend toward more acceptance of gay marriage.

Heck if you can get married in the heartland without causing an Apocalypse, maybe it's not so big of a deal.
