I want to thank and congratulate house dems on the passage of the Matthew Shepard Act

Since it was first proposed, 2 years ago, and dropped as an amendment under threat of veto by bush, it's been strengthened. Dems introduced the legislation, they championed it and they ushered it through Congress speedily.

There are 256 dems in the House of Representatives. 17 dems voted against the MSA. That's shameful and it's on those dems, but the caucus largely stuck together and stood up for this legislation.

When dems screw up, calling them on it is critical. When they stand up, recognizing and thanking them for it, is just as important.

Today, as a body, dems stood up.
