Oh My!!!! The Torture Executive Order
http://www.pubrecord.org/torture/868.html?task=view
<snip>
Senior FBI agents stationed in Iraq in 2004 claimed in an e-mail that President George W. Bush signed an executive order approving the use of military dogs, sleep deprivation and other harsh tactics to intimidate Iraqi detainees.

The FBI e-mail -- dated May 22, 2004 -- followed disclosures about abuse of Iraqi detainees at Abu Ghraib prison and sought guidance on whether FBI agents in Iraq were obligated to report the U.S. military’s harsh interrogation of inmates when that treatment violated FBI standards but fit within the guidelines of a presidential executive order.

According to the e-mail, Bush’s executive order authorized interrogators to use military dogs, “stress positions,” sleep “management,” loud music and “sensory deprivation through the use of hoods, etc.” to extract information from detainees in Iraq, which was considered a violation of the Geneva Conventions. Bush has never before been directly linked to authorizing specific interrogation techniques at Guantanamo or Abu Ghraib. Bush has admitted, however, that he personally signed off on the waterboarding of three "high-value" prisoners.

2. Before this is over we are going to find out Bush signed off on raping the children of detainees
To get their mothers to talk. We know it happened we know Bush and Cheney are capable of it.

Obama probably already knows about it.

11. I don't know, they're pretty stupid. Evil doesn't take a lot of smarts.
They aren't too stupid to be culpable though. What I like to call low cunning, dumb and nasty (and usually quite successful in lawless states).

Edited on Thu Apr-30-09 08:31 AM by CoffeeCat
Seymour Hersch talked about these awful pictures. They were initially shown to Congress members, and
Hersch said that child rape was shown in these pictures.

That was done in our name.

Those pictures need to come forward NOW!

Quit protecting these coward goons! They are moronic fools who need to be thrown in dark cells for the rest of their lives.

26. Uh-huh.
If Leopold simply means to remind us of old allegations, that's a modest but commendable effort. By rerunning the story, however, he's telling us that there's reason to believe that the Executive Order exists.

He's a journalist, supposedly. Can he not confirm that story? Is he unable to find the FBI agents who made the charge? He ought to tell us, or turn his story into an editorial by insisting that the tale needs to be investigated.

25. Allegations vs. Evidence
For all their great work...Sy Hersch, Jane Meyer, Dana Priest and others could only cite unnamed sources and secret documents in exposing the abuses and crimes. It wasn't until boooosh was removed that we're starting to see real, hard evidence of these attrocities. Here's yet another piece of that puzzle and vefification of our worst fears. It signals the need to dig further and bring out ALL the dirt here before we can reform and fully cleanse the system.

We're seeing how these disclosures are waking up more people as it's proof...tangible and admissible proof. It can be "debated" and "justified", but the fact of crimes now can't be denied. We've moved from the "prove it" stage to the "whatcha gonna do about it" one.

42. Indeed
What's more the Executive Order appears to be a response to the exposure of Abu Ghraib. Importantly it does not deal with 'abuse'.

Put simply they tortured people, then they chose to obfuscate the meaning of words so that they could continue torturing people. Meanwhile they were shouting 'we don't torture'.

Throw away the keys.

Now how can we find all these Executive Orders to read them for ourselves.

40. If this E.O. exists...
then Bush must be hanged in the Hague. Bush is no better than Hitler for ordering the systematic torture, humiliation, and degradation of fellow humans. Whether or not he intended his actions to cause the death of any person is inconsequential. During WW2, German officers were tried and convicted at the Nuremburg Trials because they did not oppose the extradition of Jews from France. These German officers played no direct role in the actual genocide of the Jewish people, but were found to be equally culpable and liable for the atrocities that resulted in the Holocaust. As the United States demanded then, we must demand now. All that were involved in the systematic torture of other human beings must be prosecuted, and if convicted, sentenced to death or hard labor. Our country set this precedent, we must abide by it.
