Everybody liked the press conference last night. Politico's Vanderhigh tried to call it "boring", but that characterization wasn't backed and didn't gain any traction.
Torture talk: Joe is a pro-torture guy. He says "Obama's numbers are in the 70's with the economy, in the 70's on foreign policy.. but on torture the numbers go down into 50/50 territory.".. The only poll he quotes is the Pew poll. He acknowledges that his is a minority viewpoint, but only in the DC/NY, media/beltway world.... He thinks the "real world out there in the country" agrees with him.
Little Willie chimed in with the ever-popular "It's easier to be anti-torture now than it was in 2002"
Joe highlights Will's column of "The Dems were ok with it too" stuff.
New Repub's Michael Crowley came on (Jeez, kid.. get some SUN) and said not much.. Gave a shout out to Jeb Bush as a guy with the "right temperament" to get National Leader status. Lol. .He called the 2 weeks that McCain was ahead in the polls just after the Palin nomination a "Two Week Freak Show".. the Buchanosaurus was not amused...
Ed Shultz made a brief appearance. .Pointed out that Obama used the word "mistake" about the torture memos instead of "crime" so that he'd still get attention for his work on healthcare, education, energy, etc etc
Chuck Todd came on and gave Joe the chance to run the clip of Biden saying HE wouldn't get in a plane or subway and got the whole "Biden fuels hysteria" and "what aren't they telling us" crap started for the rest of the day... got in the gaffe meme.. asks if Biden will have to "walk it back".
Daddy Zbig talked about chatting with Patreus.. (dropped the hint that the General may be thinking of running for Public Office . .maybe even the big one)
He kind of blew the whistle on Bush's "Iraq war run-up tactics" when talking about how you start "negotiations that are designed to fail" while talking about working with Iran now. He noted that there are people who would like to start "that kind" of negotiation with Iran.
When Ed teased Steele's appearance he made it sound like fireworks of some sort were imminent.. which was crap of course. He made "so long don't let the door hit you" noises at Spectre and said that the current meltdown was an excellent opportunity. . .He blasted the GOP for succumbing to Potomac Fever.. says they deserve the wilderness.
Clair McCaskill pointed out something that I think is important, anyway.. In every office in DC, there are contractors overseeing other contractors, working alongside government workers who are getting paid much less. There's no accountability in that food chain anywhere..
They finished with Barry Levinson & Tim Daly and their movie "PoliWood" at Tribeca film festival on the Politics/Celebrity/Media nexus.
