The Ballad of Dean Cannon
The Ballad Of Dean Cannon

Come and listen to a story 'bout a man named Dean
Poor legislator tryin' to fund his campaign team
Then one day he was shooting for some food,
And up from the Gulf came a bubbling crude
(Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea)

Well the first thing you know old Dean's a millionaire
Kin folk said Dean move away from here
Said the Capitol is the place you oughta be
So he loaded up the truck and he moved to Talla-has-see
(Leon County that is, lobbyists, PAC funds)

Well now it's time to say goodbye to Dean and all his friends
They would like to thank you folks for kindly dropping in
You're all invited back next year to this locality
To have a heaping helping of their legis-la-tive insanity
(Tally GOP, that's what we call 'em now,
Nice folks Y'all come back now, ya hear?)

With apologies to Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs,
