Couldn't Specter make the move to ensure 59 votes?
When it counted, at any rate?

1. I don't think he's been put in that position yet, has he?
His votes thus far were in situations where his vote was not the deciding factor, as far as I know. On the bankruptcy bill, he had a lot of Democratic company, unfortunately.

5. No, he hasn't. But I wouldn't past him
Mr. Back and to left, and all. Yeah, that's going way back. But is he willing to take one for the team? Sure, time will tell, but he now has all sorts of power he didn't have when he was in the GOP.

7. True. I don't think we can count on him for anything.

2. He may yet. Only time will tell.
Frankly, how he votes on the substantive legislation hardly matters. We only need him to vote for cloture ... every time.

3. That's exactly the way he operates..
He is not trustworthy, in my book.

4. his move was strategy, not ideology
he's another LIEberman, IMO. I can't for the life of me understand why Dems would welcome him aboard.

6. Exactly my cynical point. People don't just suddenly change like that
He saw a sinking ship, and realized that if he was the first to jump and make 60 he'd be golden, AND he can run as a Dem in the next election. It's win-win for him. We'll just have to see how he votes. I suspect he'll throw the Dem's a few bones at first, and once re-elected turn around and vote against everything.

8. yeah, well, no bone today
he voted for the credit card companies today. No great shock, but it seems like his only benefit will be to the DLC creeps.
