Some are calling it the "Nafta flu"

The newly coined term NAFTA Flu, otherwise known as the Swine Flu, has its roots in the forcing of poor countries to accept western agribusiness.

Swine-flu outbreak could be linked to Smithfield factory farms

The outbreak of a new flu strain—a nasty mash-up of swine, avian, and human viruses—has infected 1,000 people in Mexico and the U.S., killing 68. The World Health Organization warned Saturday that the outbreak could reach global pandemic levels.

Is Smithfield Foods, the world’s largest pork packer and hog producer, linked to the outbreak? Smithfield operates massive hog-raising operations Perote, Mexico, in the state of Vera Cruz, where the outbreak originated. The operations, grouped under a Smithfield subsidiary called Granjas Carroll, raise 950,000 hogs per year, according to the company Web site.

Malloy was just talking about this on air, and the conditions are pretty disgusting.

Edit: There is no evidence that the disgusting hogfarm conditions led to the virus outbreak and I'm not sure how it could be proved scientifically.

1. Thank you for the edit, however it's still kind of weak.
There is and has been no evidence that farming has anything to do with this flu. All this rumor trash about it has no science at all behind it.

3. I object to this cheap attempt to make political capital out of illness
as exemplified in the linked article, not the OP personally.
