Plea deal sought in puppy torture
A West Valley man charged with assaulting his girlfriend and torturing her puppy on two separate occasions, has indicated he is willing to agree to a plea bargain that would bring a prison term.

Anthony Spidle, 21, was charged in March with badly beating his girlfriend's 6-month-old puppy by hitting the animal with a skateboard and a tennis racket, and throwing the puppy against a wall at least five times — while recording the actions on the woman's voice mail for her to hear.

Spidle waived his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday on one charge each of aggravated assault and cruelty to animals, both third-degree felonies. His next hearing is an arraignment May 7 before 3rd District Judge William Barrett.

Prosecutor Greg Ferbrache said plea negotiations are under way with Spidle's lawyer, and Spidle is expected to plead guilty to one third-degree felony count regarding mistreating the dog and another class A misdemeanor count of attempted aggravated assault in the attack on his girlfriend.

The plea has been discussed but has not been officially placed on record in the courts.

Ferbrache said Spidle's defense attorney, Michael Peterson, and prosecutors have agreed to recommend a prison term of zero-to-five years if the plea deal goes through.

Well -- at least we prosecute torturing puppies (thank God!)

2. I hope he gets the full 5 years.
And that felony of his follows him the rest of his life.

Fucker. Enjoy the fear that prison gives you every single day.

4. As pissed off as I get when I read about torture
When I hear a story like this, I would not give a rats ass if they waterboarded this subhuman freak every day for the rest of his miserable life.

And if you say that makes me no better than him, well, that's your opinion.

It's definitely about revenge for me where animal cruelty is concerned.

5. Why are they letting him plead out?
There are voice mails? Open and shut case, play that in front of a jury and he's doing a lot more than five years. Also, it's BS to let him cop to "attempted aggravated assault" if he clearly succeeded in committing aggravated assault.

I know prosecuting people costs money and time, but dealing with the same pieces of shit over and over because they didn't get put away long enough in the first damned place does too.

8. Yep. Plea deals are great for clearing out the piddly stuff, so courts have
the time and money to seriously prosecute the scumfucks who really need it. Like this guy...

11. Only in America
Could someone who tortured a dog get five years behind bars while people (and I use the term advisedly) who tortured human beings will walk away scot free.
