Elizabeth Edwards scheduled to appear on Oprah May 7th--day before memoir published
In writing a second memoir, Edwards is deliberately putting herself back in the spotlight, even though she faces questions about some of the most difficult moments of their 32-year marriage.

She is scheduled to appear Thursday on Oprah Winfrey's talk show to discuss the book. That is one day before "Resilience" is set to be published by Broadway Books. Edwards has scheduled a book signing at Quail Ridge bookstore in Raleigh on May 16.

The book offers Edwards' first substantive account of her husband's affair since he admitted last summer that he had a tryst with Hunter.

2. I voted for Edwards in our primary, and I wouldn't give these two dishonest people a dime.

They both knew about his dalliances going into the primaries, they risked a major disaster if he had won the nomination (certain loss in the general if their secret came out), and they lied to their voters.

3. I was a Dean supporter in 03 and couldn't believe I was supporting Edwards
in 07. I gave him several donations.

I am most disappointed in Elizabeth; I thought she was pretty level headed. Just goes to show you
how badly you can be messed up emotionally by facing your mortality. I think she lost more than her hair
going through chemo.

4. This article subtly and devastatingly skewers Elizabeth Edwards' credibity.

After speaking of Elizabeth Edwards' version, it says

The truth seems more complicated than the story she tells in her about-to-be released memoir, "Resilience: Reflections on the Burdens and Gifts of Facing Life's Adversities."

<snip>
Three months after Edwards declared his candidacy, the Edwardses had the perfect excuse for pulling the plug on it. Elizabeth Edwards announced that her breast cancer had spread and was incurable.

John Edwards said he would continue the campaign only with his wife's permission. But as she told a news conference to announce the progress of her disease in Chapel Hill, her husband at her side, "This is bigger than John Edwards."

She later explained on CBS' "60 Minutes," "That would be my legacy wouldn't it. ... That I'd taken this fine man from the possibility of giving a great service.

Look at the comments - the most insightful asks why she wrote this - leaving all this detail for the kids to deal with in the future.

5. The staff writer of the article--Rob Christensen--traveled with the Edwards'
campaign as part of the press. I'm sure he feels like he he was really sold a bill of goods.

6. It shows
He wrote it very well. As a news story, he is obligated to compare the known history with her version and he does this very very well. Your information explains the tone of almost sadness that comes through - though I can't point my finger at things that made me think that. He is a very good writer.

7. This latest book and new version of the "truth" is superfluous.
I think it is just for the money.

8. It might be but I thought the Edwards had something like $27 million
in 2004 and I don't think he used any to fund his campaign. I have no idea what, if anything, Edwards is doing now, but that really is enough that he and Elizabeth could live a very affluent life on forever.

It is hard to think of any other reason, other than it is a misguided attempt to try to improve things that can't be improved if her goal is to improve JRE's reputation. No matter how much "balance" she puts in the salacious details will be what is focused on. Also, her timeline already differs from JRE's - meaning he lied in his confession. Not a good thing to do.

It might be that she is stung by the charge that she should have prevented the official announcement and aborted the run. JRE's timeline means she knew before the announcement - her story is she knew right after the announcement. I would bet the N&O's focus on April 2007 was to point out that her story doesn't make sense because that would have been the time she easily could have ended it.
