More bad news for Rushicans: That new Kirby Dick movie Outrage
Edited on Sat May-02-09 09:41 PM by malaise
is going to upset loads of gay Republicans.

http://www.thewashingtonnote.com/archives/2009/03/kirby_dicks_out/
<snip>
Kirby Dick, the Academy Award nominated film director for This Film Is Not Yet Rated, will soon be releasing a new film on the hypocrisy of in-the-closet gay politicians and the lengths Washington will go to help protect them even as they vote and legislate against equal rights and protections for gay and lesbian Americans.

The new film, Outrage will be released on May 8th but will be featured in the Tribeca Film Festival between April 22nd and May 3rd.

I haven't seen the film but understand that it is powerful and pulls ajar doors that some key Republican political personalities are trying to keep jammed shut. Gay activist, blogger, and gay Republican outing-machine Mike Rogers -- who nailed Senator Larry Craig (so to speak) -- features pretty heavily in the film, and I've been told today that yours truly appears in it as well.

Something for your calendars.

1. He was on Breakroom Live
the other day and was interviewed by Sam Seder about the movie. I hadn't heard of him before that, but I would definitely be interested in seeing the movie. Fascinating subject. Maybe the publicity from the movie will light a fire under the corporate media's asses and they could start addressing the rank hypocrisy.

6. You're a powerful, closeted Republic personality? Who knew?
It's just so nice being cute, but anonymous.

8. Heh!
If they are flaming hypocrites, then out them. If you were in DC, there was never much of a secret. It just wasn't in the MSM.
Watch the heads explode now!

10. Let's See How Any Publicity Is Framed...
I'm curious to see the reaction here, especially if Rogers names names. While I firmly support outing of those who vote against the rights of gays (and many other groups for that matter), I'm also cynical of how the corporate media will use this. Will they try to turn it into a freak show...a beltway game of "gay, bi or straight"...taking the focus off the issue of rights and into a sensational game and somehow making those who are being outted as victims.

Like others, I'm very interested in seeing this film as it's sure to expose a lot of rushpublican dirty laundry and surely rattle many of their fundie supporters. Hopefully it can advance a dialogue in making this double standard the issue...a political not a sexual one.

There was a discussion on CNN last night
and Rogers names names. The discussion suggested that their aim is to expose political hypocrisy.

12. Hypocrisy Is Well And Good...
it's just the cynic in me that sees how the corporate media turns these types of stories into morality plays that lead could lead to a conveluted game of "nuts or sluts"...avoiding the issue of how a Drier or Graham or whomever supports an agenda that violates civil rights...and not just of gays, but of many other groups as well. Did they support equal pay or their stand on "illegal immigration" and so on...the hypocrisy goes far and deep.

11. I'm amazed at how few have seen This Film Is Not Yet Rated!!!
It reveals in detail how the fascist MPAA is comprised of only wealthy, religious repubs who more or less censor indie films and material they don't like while allowing a lot of R - rated material to slide as PG-13 for BIG movies.

Looking forward to Outrage

13. Has anybody actually seen the movie yet.
His interview with the Advocate makes it appear that Karl Rove will be outed.
