fifth grader accused of targeting a 10-year-old girl on a “kill list” and hitting her in the face
East Fork Justice Jim EnEarl issued a temporary protection order Friday against a Meneley Elementary School fifth grader accused of targeting a 10-year-old girl on a “kill list” and hitting her in the face with a rock.

The student has been suspended, but the girl’s father said he didn’t think the school was doing enough to protect his daughter.

EnEarl issued the order for 15 days and told the applicant to return if he feels the school district hasn’t done enough to insure his daughter’s safety.

.....

“On Tuesday, he (the suspect) had a list of kids he wanted to kill, and he wanted to kill a dog and wanted to know where to get a gun,” the girl’s father told EnEarl.

.....

“You can’t be within 100 yards of the school grounds,” EnEarl said. “If you go there now, you will be taken into custody and face juvenile proceedings. Don’t you dare go to that school.

“This has become serious, this isn’t idle conversation,” EnEarl said. “You’ve got me involved. Your parents can’t save you from me.”

.....

1. Death Penalty Warranted?
Seems to me the judge is looking at it from an adult perspective rather than a juvenile one. You would think maybe he should be talking serious psych eval. and intervention instead.

info in the article. I am curious about all the details that are left out.

At least his parents acknowledge there is a problem and they need
professional help. I can't tell if the judge is trying to take a hard
stand in order to get through to the kid before he begins counseling
so that the judge does not have to send him to juvie. The
fact that the kid will not respond to questions is scary. I doubt this will make the newspapers again - I think they are afraid of copycats who think
Why Not Do This?

The fact that he also wants to kill a dog.....

4. It is probably already too late for Juvie
As a retired teacher, I can tell you true that some kids are just not wired right and they need help. This kid needs help right now to determine if the problem is chemical, mental, or just plain bad wiring. He may not be fixable but he can be helped to a degree before he kills someone. Sounds like you are right, that the judge realizes that juvie will not help. Hope his parents are on the ball.

7. Yup -- the kid is a sociopath, and they acn't be "cured"

What you said is truth: they aren't wired right, and can never be rewired.

8. That's why I said psych. eval.
He may just be beyond help...but geez, don't you have a diagnostic eval. on your car when it's screwing up? Or maybe you just push it off a cliff

5. We had a kid like this in my grade school
Just before he showed up, the teacher gave us a lecture on being nice to new kids in school, and going out of our way to try to make friends. So my buddy and I tried to be nice to him a few days after he showed up, and the told us he'd kill us if we didn't leave him alone. We did. A few weeks later, the police arrested him on top of an oil storage tank, trying to set it on fire. We never saw him again, and I never heard what happened to him. Just a strange, nasty child.

6. Kill list?!?!?!!
Nice to see schools finally doing something about actual bullies and similar vermin. Root problems. "Boys will be boys" was so 1970s/80s, bullies got away with far too much back then and real peoples' lives have been scarred.

Why do I prematurely call this "person" a bully? Because the article mentions the kid wanted to kill a dog too. Some victims of bullies might have a lot of bullies and dream up revenge lists, but their emotions are focused. Bullies are the ones that by and large do cruel things to animals as well as people, I don't see enough evidence to bestow any sympathy on the little antisocial delinquent.

9. Thanks to all for your thoughts.
I agree this kid is most likely toast and has been for a long time. Whether it is set up before conception, during pregnancy or the first years of life, who knows. I would like to know what he was doing when he was 2,3,5, 7 years old.

I wish I could change things.
