Scenes From the Real America
I spent Saturday at the bi-annual Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot, right outside of Louisville, Ky. Gun enthusiasts of all stripes were there — from the National Rifle Association and sportsmen to militia members to white supremacists and Obama birthers. Here’s a collection of choice photos from the show (after the jump):

Photo heavy at link. This is the real deal, these are the people who claim President Obama wants to take their guns away. These are very scary people, and I wonder how many of them are being watched by the Secret Service. And what is scarier are the comments by the Freepers, worth their weight in gold.

2. ugh
I really hope Obama takes good care. I am old enough to remember earlier tragedies in America's past.
I disagree with Obama's Republicrat tact, but he's sooooo much better than the alternative Republican party. And a truly good guy.

There are easy to fool people in America that are lead by the nose with the corporate media. I see them all the time and it's very discouraging - at best.

6. Have been for years..
..with evil scary guns as well as the walnut and blued steel variety.

Went to a gun show today in Fort Worth, a buddy of mine just bought his first handgun. He'll be taking his concealed carry license class in about a month. He's left of center.

Knob Creek is pretty famous for shooting enthusiasts, so it draws all kinds. I wouldn't judge your average gun owner based on knob creek any more than I would your average pot smoker based on burning man.

7. I've always had a shot gun and that's it
My grandfather was a state cop and said that all you needed to protect your home was a shot gun, you can't miss and its difficult to take away.

Yesterday, me and the same buddy went down to waxahachie to shoot his new shotgun. At 10 feet, the spread of target load was pretty broad (at least 24"- that's how wide the target was). Would have stung like the dickens, but it wouldn't stop a determined person. A couple of degrees to the left or right, and it would just piss someone off.

At about 7 feet, it was a closer scatter, 8" across. Not sure I want to get that close to an attacker. Even with 00 buck and a modified choke, at 7 feet, a 5 degree shift either way is 7-1/3" difference (tan(5)*84=7.34). A 10 degree difference would be 14-7/8".

eta: 7 feet is the average distance for a defensive shooting. At 10 feet, it gets even worse- 10.5" & 21.1" for a 5 and 10 degree shift.
