Accusation Lands Dorothy and Toto in Court

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Where your dog takes care of business is serious business in Overland Park.

A 77-year-old woman has to face a judge because neighbors complained about where her dog Toto went to the bathroom.

Police showed up at Dorothy Watson’s house whena neighbor called 9-1-1. To report a dog peeing in her yard!

“One neighbor's saying the other neighbor let their dog urinate on their property and that there's some damage caused by the dog's leash to some trees,” Jim Weaver of the Overland Park Police Department said.

more . . . (if you can stand it)

4. It sounds like Dorothy
moved in next to Mrs. Gulch. She should have known better!

What a nasty neighbor and she called 911 for that? Good grief.

8. "Police collected no evidence of a crime." Brilliant!

Although just to be a stick in the mud, dog 'business' is pretty disgusting and damaging. If I had a neighbor that regularly used my yard for that purpose, and I had exhausted every possible means of peaceful solution (no sign that any of that applies here), then I would probably call the police in lieu of some other more violent response...

12. Same here
This is the second largest city in KS. The cops can afford a second phone line other than 911. LOL

15. No and the cops should be fining this lady for misusing 911
it's not called an EMERGENCY number for nothing. What if someone really needed help and the cops we busy dealing with paranoid rantings about dog pee?

9. So, in some of the stories posted around here police won't respond in
Edited on Sun May-10-09 01:23 PM by Lorien
matters of life and death if the caller is young or uses an expletive, but they respond to a call about a peeing dog?

What's next, arresting squirrels for trespassing and bird feeder robbery?

I didn't much like it when my neighbor never picked up the shit his dog left in my yard, but pee? Give me a break!

13. And I am getting ready to go out and interact with some of these fine officers
At least they will have something to do today that doesn't involve dog pee. --> http://www.juliasvoice.org/

14. certainly calling 911 for an neighbor's dog peeing in your yard is over the top
there are other solutions.

I currently have a problem with somebody's dog in my neighborhood peeing on my kid's slide that is attached to her swing set. as soon as I figure out whose dog it is, I plan to mention it to the neighbor. If that doesn't work, I plan to call animal control or the sheriff (I don't have a local police dept).

16. We had some friends many years ago who solved a similar problem with a BB gun
Dog wasn't hurt (at least not too badly) and it never came back into their yard again.
