If spending is the solution to get out of a recession/depression ...
... then why is the GOP-controlled media trying to make it seem like cutting spending is the solution?

Here is the headline for an article in the LA Times: Healthcare groups vow to cut spending

And here is an excerpt:
"Leading health industry groups have agreed to slow the explosive growth of healthcare spending ..."

Oh, but it's going to hurt them more than it will hurt us:
"Many members of those groups, whose leaders have been working for weeks behind closed doors on the letter, could lose some money if healthcare spending were substantially slowed."

Here's another oddly worded bit:
"Spending on healthcare reached $2.2 trillion in 2007 and is expected to increase by more than 6% a year, on average, over the next decade, faster than the economy's growth in general, according to the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services."
I say that the above quote is oddly worded because it makes it sound as though hospitals, doctors, pharm-corps and insurance corporations are spending (donating?) $2.2 trillion, but not that citizens are paying $2.2 trillion.

Oh, but in the end, John Rother, director of public policy for AARP is quoted:
"Reducing the skyrocketing cost of healthcare is the only way to create a healthcare system that works for all Americans. After all, what good is access to a system that we can't afford?"
Ah, there's the right word: "cost."

What a bunch of crap we're being fed by the GOP-controlled media. With all the confusion they're deliberately spreading about cutting spending and socialism it's no wonder more people aren't calling for single-payer.

4. It's only that the media isn't reporting the public outcry.
We are calling for single-payer--research recent polls.

5. What I meant was that not enough people are calling for single-payer.
There are still too many people who believe the lies from the GOP and will willingly vote against their own best interests.

6. I know what you meant.
You haven't seen the polls showing that ~60% of Americans support single-payer.

8. You're correct. I have not seen those polls.
However, I'd feel better if 80-90% of Americans supported single-payer.

60% is too close to 50% for my tastes, especially when you consider that the GOP control the media.

That tiny 10% is too easy to sway with all their propaganda.
