Hmm those students at ASU failed History 101
on the daily show right now...

There are days I wonder about the stupidity of people... By the way, Franklin and Hamilton were Presidents of the US according to these guys, probably in an alternate reality...

Yep, want to roll eyes

3. Yes, as an ASU grad, I can say most students there are morons.
That's what happens when enough people advocate low property taxes. The schools fail and the kids grow up stupid.

9. So did SDSU back then
but it was also known as a party school...

And you know what... both can exist in the same campus

I get it, you are still there... trust me, years make that loyalty go away.

10. Oh I have little loyalty for ASU
If I had money I'd probably be back east right now.

But I'm not a fan of trash talking ASU in the stereotypical sense. It serves it's purpose as a public university available for almost anyone.

11. This is not trash talking or stereotype
I don't mind it if people tell me San Diego State is a party school, You know what, IT IS.

You have a choice as a student, you can work your hinney off, and get your work done, or you can have fun. THey are not mutually exclusive

And it is also a public school that serves its purpose admirably well... but if people tell me it has a sucky football team, it does, and if I had it my way, get rid of it. If people tell me it has a broken greek system, yep and your point? It is a party school, sure, next.

It is also a very good school if you are willing to work to get your education.

12. ASU has actually fallen down the ranks of party schools.
I haven't been to many other universities, but I don't really see a lot of partying. The Greek system throws good parties, but it's not like it runs wild every Friday night.

ASU just seems like a typical public university to me.

13. So did San Diego State when I attended
in eight years, include my MA, I remember only TWO times the cops were even called, and in recent years only one time that they made it to the news.. for really wrong reasons.

It was more of a rep, but it was still a party school

The way I see it is this way... public universities that have a high proportion of students who don't live on campus, SDSU is the case, you have to commute. So you have to work to find the parties. Now if that is your choice... of poison, you can party your heart out... and I just heard some of them were wild. Or you can do your work and get a fine education.

But to me it is not a slur. Hell... if you ask me the private schools also have parties, some of them really wild. They just don't have the rep... the university up the hill from where I live is a good example. Hell we had more issues with those kids in spring break.

14. You can thank Hugh Hallman and Michael Crow for that.
The Tempe mayor publicly called ASU students "bums" and generally treats Tempe's biggest draw with total contempt.

Ever since Michael Crow got in, the party patrols have increased every year, and I witnessed the dorm rules in the Honors College change from normal to draconian almost overnight. All of this is heavily backed by Mormon dollars, no less, and Mormons don't like alcohol.

I also noticed the party scene decline noticeably during my time here. Initially, parties here were good fun with generally friendly people and cops rarely showed up, but over time I noticed the beer became cheaper, the crowds were less interesting, people congregated in little circles all over the party ignoring everyone else, fights happened more, a couple of times gunshots were fired, and of course the cops showed up more.

If the quality of the education improved, that would be one thing, but it really hasn't. Most classes at ASU involve little more than rote memorization, and apart from the economics classes, they don't teach you a lot of new material.

All in all, I'm glad to have my degree and to attend commencement, but I'm even more glad to be rid of this school and the depressing, anti-intellectual environment Phoenix provides.

15. Well I agree we are no U VA or U Penn...

But I think you are cutting the potential of ASU a bit short. Sure phoenix, and Arizona in general, is hopelessly close minded, but the campus, to me at least, has been fairly eye opening. Most of what I have learned and enjoyed have been from honors courses and philosophy classes.

But still, if I had the option, I'd probably be back east right now at a proper liberal arts college that actually takes political science seriously. People look at me and laugh when I tell them I'm a poli sci/philosophy major. It's sad.

And fuck Mormons. I don't get how they are allowed to have a big ass church right in the middle of campus. I'm so tired of the Mormon influence in Arizona.

4. Jay walking is simply astounding.
whenever he interviews someone who is either a college graduate or in college.

I simply can't believe that someone so ill-informed is attending college.
