Liz Cheney Asked To Stay On MSNBC Set To Take On Robinson
By Zachary Roth - May 12, 2009, 4:58PM

snip....

But it's noticeable from the start that Liz Cheney seems intent not just on arguing with Robinson, as you'd expect, but on challenging him at every turn, and almost forcibly preventing him from laying out a coherent argument in favor of probing the torture program that her father helped engineer.

That's why this tweet from Chris Licht, the producer of Morning Joe, was so interesting. Licht twittered:

Cheney asked to stay on set to talk to Eugene.. glad she did. Great conversation.

In other words, Liz Cheney specifically requested to stay longer than her allotted time, in order to prevent Robinson from making a case against torture and the ex-veep. And MSNBC, knowing it would make for good TV, obliged.

If nothing else, it gives you a pretty good window into the zealousness with which Team Cheney playing defense -- as well as the eagerness with which the cable networks manufacture moments of controversy.

Thanks to reader T.K. for the catch.

For more Liz fun & games, you jhave to read the comments from this 2006 link... they are hysterical and true:)...could be from DUers:)

2. cheney
joe is the most conservative person on msnbc. the fact that its even up for discussion shows their mindsets. I dont understand the logic, but i suppose they have him on in the morning when they figure all of the republicans are up and at em. almost like profiling. keith is on in the middle of the night, so unless your up at those hours, u miss out on great politics

of which we'll be hearing a lot. She's her father's lawyer, right?

 :grr: :evilfrown:

Gee, I like that word! We should remember it, and call it when we see it! 'subtly deceptive reasoning or argumentation'

4. Liz is definitely the misbegotten spawn of
Dick & Lynn ... a double dose of evil, to be sure.

Here's a report from the cowed WaPo.

<...>
"She also suggested that her father feels more liberated to speak since leaving the White House.
'One of the nice things about my dad being out of office is that he doesn't need sign off," Cheney said. "He is out there speaking out because he personally feels so strongly about these issues.'
The remarks are the latest in a series of sharply worded attacks on Obama from former vice president Richard B. Cheney and his allies, who seem to be particularly outraged by Obama's decision to release discredited legal memos allowing the use of abusive interrogation tactics, such as waterboarding, that are widely viewed as torture."

6. I like Eugene Robinson, and all, but...
he's really not good at on-air confrontation. I would have liked to see her go toe-to-toe with Lawrence O'Donnell. Now THAT'd be great television.

8. He's too nice. He didn't want to attack her. O'Donnell would probably
have been the better foil.

9. She ran right over Robinson, too. Talked over him and interrupted him to the point he
was unable to utter a complete thought or sentence.

I guess Robinson was blindsided by having been ambushed like that. Not surprising they did this, that show is a cesspool of RW talking points.

You know that old quote from Shakespeare - 'the lady doth protest too much'? That's what's going through my mind these days watching them go into overdrive defending torture.

11. In The End She Will Regret She Stayed...
No surprise her job was to play the bully...the hammer. She was trotting out every talking point she could conger and it didn't matter how much evidence and reality is presented to her, she's got the spin down and will stick to it. The GOOP have long played these games on the teevee and the corporate media not only like it, they thrive on it. Their attempts to be "balanaced" or not appear to be the "librul media" allows a Cheney to run roughshod and spin like a top. But methinks this strategy, like many other GOOP tactics, no longer have much impact.

A couple weeks ago, Cheney was on with Nora the White Ho and, to Nora's credit, she didn't let cheney's spins and lies go unchallenged. Afterwards, Larry O'Donnell came on and was chomping to have at Lizzie, but they didn't ask Cheney to stay. Methinks this was an attempt to make up for that.

Bottom line is cheney was destroyed totally by Gene Robinson. Every talking point she tried to fly, he shot down with the simple explanation that it was illegal...not matter how you slice it or have a toady try to "redefine it"...torture is torture and it's illegal. She opened the door wider to the need for a full investigation...one that she can't spin or her criminal father can influence. Right now they're out trying to muddy the waters and nullify the jury.

Notice the more these bloodsuckers talk the more this issue stays in the news.
