Well, this term is going to be in the forefront in our national health care debate.

So, just what does this term mean?

I always feel like I missed the first couple of days of class on all these national debates.

Everybody uses this term like it's self evident.

1. quite simply, under a single payer plan, docs, hospitals

and other health care professionals, are paid from a single source, almost always the gov't.

1) Federal Government Is The Single Payer

2) Government Negotiates Rates For Services, Tests, and Medicines

3) Each Citizen is free to choose their doctor since all doctors are paid by the same entity

4) Profit motive is removed from the equation since the rates are negotiated on an annual basis

5) If private insurers want to provide policies over and above that which is included in Universal Care, they are free to do so

Elizabeth Kucinich explains single payer. She explains it with out dodging the scary ideas we have been programmed to fear. Fear of government doing anything, fear of social programs, and fear of big lobbyist. She just says what it is, and she shows she cares.

The 'programed thought' that government is bad, makes many scared to have a health system like the rest of the industrial world. It is nice to see a different view standing up, for to long we have only been told that we would all suffer from government programs, and many have tried to scare us from honestly talking about it.

(Side note, unlike many that deal in fear, she does not try and distort things. She just explains what it means based on her view, and how the dollars stack up. She does not try and scare people into not thinking, nor does she claim to think for others, or claim to have all the answers, she gives information from her viewpoint.

Unlike the fear mongering, from those claiming what they are not, and just screaming labels like socialism.

SideSide note: I also like the lights behind her. :) )


Dean in this clip explains that single payer should be an option for people. In my view it is a free market approach, creating competition between two systems. If the government can offer single payer health care better then the private sector, it will win out, otherwise people will choose private sector insurance.
