Democrat Socialist Party
Edited on Wed May-13-09 11:35 AM by DainBramaged

A member of the Republican National Committee told me Tuesday that when the RNC meets in an extraordinary special session next week, it will approve a resolution rebranding Democrats as the “Democrat Socialist Party.”

When I asked if such a resolution would force RNC Chairman Michael Steele to use that label when talking about Democrats in all his speeches and press releases, the RNC member replied: “Who cares?”

Which pretty much sums up the attitude some members of the RNC have toward their chairman these days.

Steele wrote a memo last month opposing the resolution. Steele said that while he believes Democrats “are indeed marching America toward European-style socialism,” he also said in a (rare) flash of insight that officially referring to them as the Democrat Socialist Party “will accomplish little than to give the media and our opponents the opportunity to mischaracterize Republicans.”

That's the big weapon all the brilliant minds of the GOPer party could come up with?

4. And we should rename them the "Republic Ignorant Party" (otherwise known as the R.I.P.)
Somehow it seems appropriate considering their current status on life-support

6. I find this very disturbing. It reminds me of the German National Socialist
Party, better known as the Nazi Party.

Do you suppose the Republicans had this in mind when they came up with this shit?

11. Of course that's what they have in mind
they belive, seriously I guess, that branding the Democrats as socialist nazi fascists will be the road to the White House and Congressional majorities very very soon.

I once asked a co-worker to define socialist and he, being a card carrying repuke, had no idea what it meant. Simply copying shit he heard on Hannity. Not too happy when I pointed it out to him either, didn't seem to care when I tried to tell him what the term meant.

23. That was my first thought when I heard this! I would not doubt it for a second.
It's just the sort of petty, backhanded shit they'd pull. This has got to be one of the lamest things they've done so far. And you KNOW it's a bad idea when even Pat Buchanan backs away from it (like he did on Hardball yesterday).

They lose more and more relevency every day and with every stunt like this..

just go ahead and vote on what idiots will be labeling Democrats instead of coming up with an alternate plan. Colorful pictures in a wordless brochure don't count. Oh. My. God.

18. I wish it was a socialist party, but it's not.
There certainly are pro-socialist forces in the party, and I hope they gain influence.

The right does not seem to understand that all they are accomplishing is the popularization of socialism, especially among the young who despise the Republicans. "Capitalism" is not exactly some hugely popular concept with many as the markets are clearly not functioning as they are "supposed to" and it's the state that has to come to the rescue. "Capitalism" is the corporate executive who oversees mass layoffs while making off with a multimillion dollar bonus. Maybe "socialism" is about putting the people's interests first - the "general welfare" the constitution talks about.

The ideologists of the right are concerned about the "socialism vs. capitalism" question, but it appears outmoded and impertinent to the large majority of people. They're hopeless dogmatists.

Mike, if these nuts flying their true colors "mischaracterizes" Republicans, either throw them out or lead those who've been mischaracterized into a new party. Otherwise, don't complain about waking up with fleas.

The Republic Party needs to get their nouns and adjectives right.
