What do the following have in common?
* An inquisitor tortures a woman into confessing she's a witch
* Operatives of Pinochet torture the father of Michelle Bachelet, the President of Chile, into confessing he's a traitor to Chile
* Our intelligence operatives torture a detainee and he confesses that there is a link between Iraq and Al Qaeda

Besides the fact they were tortured, notice something else that is similar between all 3 of these true stories?

And there are some people who still believe that torture works, why?

1. No difference whatsoever.
I cannot accept President Obama's decision not to release these photos. I cannot accept that he is covering for Bush in almost every decision he is making regarding punishing those who committed these atrocities or exposing them for the monsters they are. I absolutely cannot accept this. He's lost me. I will not support someone who is willing to cover up the crimes committed by the Bush cabal. Is there no one with character in D.C.? Or all they all fucking phonies?

4. Torture does work if the goal is to get someone to say something
that isn't true. In fact, it works quite well for that purpose. You could add one more great example to your list as well:

John McCain's confessions and taped propaganda under Vietcong torture.
