1. It definetely woke up a lot of people
and I, for one, was glad it was shown.
It shook DC to the bone.
My stepson ended up being in the unit that went to Abu Ghraib right after this last unit was there (the ones that tortured)
needless to say, when he got there they were in a panic trying to clean up the mess . they were completely revamping the place, putting in A/C and trying to pretty it up for the press.
it was still a cauldron of shit, and the new photos need to be released.
my stepson told me they were still arresting children when he was an MP there.

3. here's the problem:
Edited on Wed May-13-09 02:47 PM by Soylent Brice
this country is so fucking apathetic and lazy, so uninvolved and mentally void, that UNLESS you present cold hard undeniable facts, usually visual aids are helpful, NO ONE GIVES A FUCK.

we care. we know what they did, which is why a lot of people here just want to see prosecutions, even if the photos don't get released. i understand that, but the rest of the population, the majority of them JUST DON"T GET IT.

and they never will, unless the truth is aired out in all of it's brutal and inhumane reality.

i feel for your son for having to witness that, but he'll be able to explain to his children just how fucked up humanity gets when we don't have compassion for our fellow humans.

like US soldiers liberating holocaust camps. i'm sure none of them wanted to see that shit, but they did, so that we would never forget.

and that's the point.

(edit for spelling - hard to type when you're shaking pissed)

2. Sith Lord Cheney is PROUD of that shit!
And his pesky side-kick apparently signed off on it - but he thought he was ordering a pizza with a six pack of beer.

4. The unreleased photos are apparently even worse.
Some of them are said to involve the sodomization of children. I'm not sure I want them released if there's no intention of prosecuting anyone who ordered it.

7. bullshit.
images are the best way to inform. If you don't like it, take your ball and go home.

If you fail to realize just how damaging Obama's decision was today, globally, all I can say is wow.

I think the biggest issue with Abu Ghraib was that we had a bunch of misfits running the prison. If you look at the pictures of the guards, you can tell that they were not frontline troops. I remember when I was deployed to Iraq. We had out own make-shift prison to hold detainees. The guys we had working the prison were the type of Marines that no one wanted along thier side while on patrol. Even so, such atrocities did not happen on our watch.

These were Army people right? I'd be hard pressed to believe that something like that would have happened under Marine Corps leadership. I am sorry to say, the Army is the home of the dregs of society. No honor, no pride, no committment, and no leadership.
