"Democratic Socialist Party?" Sounds like the "National Socialist Party," better known as Nazis
Edited on Wed May-13-09 09:36 PM by Cyrano
The Republican's current effort to rename the Democratic Party as the "Democratic Socialist Party" is, to me, just one more desperate ploy to distract America's attention from what they've done to us over the past eight (or perhaps 30) years.

For those who don't know, the other name for the German "National Socialist Party" was indeed, Nazis.

Call me paranoid, but I doubt if this similarity in titles is a coincidence. Does anyone really doubt that the Republicans didn't see this similarity? They will stop at nothing to brand Dems as evil and themselves as the saviors of freedom.

This latest attempt to re-brand the Democratic Party with the name "Socialist Democratic Party" is a despicable act of character assassination. And it's a thinly veiled attempt to tie Dems, however subtly, to Nazis. There are still many people living in this country who recall that the Nazis called themselves the "National Socialist Party."

Combating the never-ending sewerage that consistently spews from Republicans can really make you weary. But if we don't combat them on every single syllable of every single lie they hurl at us, we will lose our rights, our freedoms and our country.

It's past time to admit that the Republican Party is the enemy of democracy and that they must be fought each and every time they attack us.

1. Personally, I think the Democratic Party should make a resolution of their own
That is, to call the Republican by their actual party name, Republicans, in affirmation of the right of people to determine the name of their own group.

2. The republicans have been practicing fascism for years.
They are attempting to reverse the truth. It's like a rapist pointing at someone else in the room and saying, "He did it. Call him the rapist."

4. They want to name it "Democrat Socialist Party" not "Democratic"
Last I heard, per Rachel Maddow show.

5. There's already such a thing as a Democratic Socialist -- I know, because I'm married to one
I think you're being paranoid.

7. Many countries have Democratic Socialist parties and there's nothing wrong with that.
However, what I am trying to point out in the original post is that the Republicans have a much more malevolent purpose in their attempt to pin this name of the Democratic Party.

6. I have no doubt at all that they see the similarity...
...it is all part of the game they have been playing for many years.

They have pulled out all the stops over the years, including linguistic manipulations like the one you note. It is their framing tactic -- first rename the Democrats, and then try and get it into common usage, and then later point out disingenuously, "Do you ever notice how similar the name, the 'Democrat Socialist Party' is to the 'National Socialist Party'? Did you know that the National Socialist Party was the name of the Nazi Party? It's no accident!" If anyone points out that it was a name put on them by the Republicans, the perpetrator will just shrug and say "Well I don't know about that, all I know is it's a common term used for the Democrat Party".

That's how they roll.

9. Yep. That's pretty much how the Republicans play the game. Except that
it's not a game. It's a matter of life and death. And to anyone who believes the Republicans are the party that values "life," you're deluding yourself.

8. Interestingly, the Social Democrats were the workingmen's party during the Weimar Republic
and were the greatest challenge to the National Socialists.

10. Yep, I knew that. But the goal the Republicans are aiming for in this case is much more malevolent.
They know that most people's knowledge of history is as extensive as their knowledge of quantum mechanics.

Their goal is to destroy the Democratic Party (and any other opposition) over time. Unfortunately, they have much more patience and are more oriented to long term goals than are we.

11. The irony is that the Nazis were a bunch of anti-leftist reactionaries, much like the GOP. nt

12. It's become verboten to call Republicans Nazis. Damned if I know why.
I guess the biggest reason is that they have not built or used any concentration or death camps. ... Yet.

As for me, I fear for humanity if these pricks ever regain power.

And for those of you who think I am being overly dramatic, who would have ever expected that the Germans, who were an advanced, enlightened civilization, could ever have committed the horrors they did.

Do you actually want to take the chance of finding out if the Republicans are capable of the same depravities committed by the Nazis? Maybe they are and maybe they aren't. But do you really want to put the answer to that question to the test?
