Credit Card Oddity...they just LOWERED my rate
So I get a call from Discover.

I've been having them take an automatic payment out of my bank account each month, but the agreement only lasts for a year. The year ended, I didn't realize it, and I missed my last payment.

I asked the woman I spoke with if I could renew the agreement. Not only did she set up a new 12-month plan, she waived the $39 late fee.

Then, she said "Oh, you're paying 19.9%. Would you like 15.9% instead?"

No strings, so I accepted :)

2. Your RENT?? That's really odd.
I've seen smaller-than-usual increases in the past, but never a reduction.

3. MOG! This is series1 Deflation!
Deflation has begun. We have to stop it. Hurry, don't accept that low interest rate or lower rent, That's just what they want you to do! Next thing you know, they'll be lowering the prices on everything and nothing will be worth anything! This is what we've all been dreading. Dang!

4. The problem with actual deflation is that it depresses wages, too.
...and increases unemployment...

But you're right, stuff does get cheaper. If your job is secure and your wages aren't driven by profit, deflation can increase your buying power.

6. They need to redo that system.
Having to renew auto payments is ridiculous.

But good for them that they fixed it AND gave you a better rate.

7. Wierd .. the clerk at the counter charged me 71 cents instead of $71 for my groceries ..
But the honest guy that I was - I pointed the error and saved her ass from getting fired ..

This was an farmers market where things arent scanned but keyed in .. she forgot to punch in the 00 in to the credit card machine.
