A Vista Unified School District trustee is suggesting the school board publicly honor Carrie Prejean, the Miss USA runner-up who grabbed national attention last week for her comments on same-sex marriage, the North County Times reported.
Trustee Jim Gibson said this week he wants to make June 1 "Carrie Prejean Day" in the district. He called Prejean, a 2005 Vista High School graduate, a "good, strong role-model."
"We're setting her up as an example," he told the paper. "As far as I'm concerned, she's a great role-model, and she's a person who needs to be emulated."
Prejean said in a phone interview Tuesday that she was thrilled by the recognition and is proud of her North County ties.
"I feel so honored," she told the paper.
Gibson is proposing the school board approve the proclamation at its May 14 meeting.

This chick didn't come close to losing her title because she spoke out against gay marriage.

She was in danger of losing her crown because she lied about never having taken nude pics and not honoring her contractual obligations as Miss California to not join any political organizations and for not showing up at scheduled events.

And if this is your area, please fill us in on any local scandals where any teachers were fired due to "conduct unbecoming of a teacher" if there are any. It would be a joy to spam the local newspapers with LTTEs outing the hypocrisy of this school board.

Are you kidding me? What has she done to get any honor? Has she helped to find homes for all of the homeless children in Vista School District? Has she helped to fill the shelves of the food bank? Has she volunteered to teach any of the children struggling to learn to read because their own parents cannot read? Has she spoken up for those unable to speak for themselves?



Has she held a fund raiser to help all of the poor Military families living in this area? Has she spoken out against prejudice and hatred and reminded children these are the reasons we go to war? Has she taken a stand against the corporations who have robbed the citizens of their clean air, their clean water, their retirement, and their dignity?



What message are we wanting to send our young people, that those who are different than you should be despised and treated like second class citizens? That if your internal voice which you claim to be God tells you to deprive people of basic rights then that’s the way the world should be? In every religion in the world we are taught to “love one another”, not to be judgmental.



We have experienced exactly what this shallow, mean spirited thinking brings to our country. Have we not had enough? Are you as a responsible Board member actually willing to be a part of such small minded thinking and behavior? If the answer is yes, there should be a massive movement to replace all such board members from office.
