Did we just enter backwards land? CIA denies Cheney's request to open up documents
"Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney's request to declassify records of interrogations of suspected terrorists has been denied, an official said."

Cheney wants to open up the secret documents?

Now I've seen everything.

But at least I hope Cheney knows what it feels like to be on the receiving end of government secrecy.

2. His request was denied because the documents he requested be declassified...
"are the subject of pending litigation — making them not subject to declassification." Cheney knew that when he did his song and dance asking for them to be declassified. He is, afterall, consistent in his abuse of all things legal.

CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano said Thursday that the request was turned down because the documents are the subject of pending litigation — making them not subject to declassification.

"For that reason — and that reason only — CIA did not accept Mr. Cheney's request for a Mandatory Declassification Review," said Gimigliano.

Boy, you said a mouthful! You're right, he requested them knowing they wouldn't be released. But even with that, Feingold said there wasn't much there to begin with.

Feingold says Cheney is wrong: ‘Nothing I have seen’ in the CIA memos proves torture was necessary

4. President Obama also iterated he had seen the documents Cheney wants...

and there was nothing in them that would definitively address Cheney's contention that "usable intelligence" was gained that could NOT have been gained through the traditional methods of interrogation. Obama spoke about this at his last Press Conference, I believe, and it was in response to a reporter's question as to whether he had seen them.

I have looked for a transcript of this but have not found one as yet.

Edited to add: I wonder what the "pending litigation" is? I find that little tidbit to be VERY intriguing. Could that "pending litigation" be part of the reason Cheney is all over the airwaves recently?
