Does Michael Steele have the GOP by the balls?

You just know they would love to dump him tomorrow... but they can't. And he knows it.

Because if they dump him, what do they tell the black constituency they are trying to win over to their side?

So Steele laughs and jokes with Obama. He tells the GOP that they need to be nice to Obama and not treat him like the Democrats treated Bush, as if they both deserve the same equal amount of ridicule in the name of fairness?

But even that is a shield for Steele against removal by his Party. What would he say if they fired him? What could he say? He tried to tell his Party that they needed to be a little less confrontational but they disagreed? They refused to change their old ways? They wanted to attack President Obama. That is all that they knew. They want to scream out loud, the pain is so excruciating. :-)

I am of the opinion that Michael Steele actually could have been a positive influence. I remember when he started out trying to say he wanted the GOP to appeal to even the left-handed midgets--he occasionally made statements that tried to sound like the minority youth or more "Meghan McCain"/ "culture wars are so 90's" Republicans needed to be front and center.

But he isn't really welcome in the teabagging milleaux. He might be able to bridge Limbaugh and McCain, and have the flexibility to promote both points of view, but the party took the power of the purse away from him, and complained whenever he tried to make sense publically. I think he has made some tactical errors, but means well for his party, and has been too much dismissed to be effective. But I think, in a way, they can't take down any prominent Republican, just because they can't afford to lose any. I don't think it's necessarily a "black thing." I think it's a "how do we change horses" thing that keeps him viable. If they went with their gut--Pat Buchanan might be the RNC head right now.

(Just pausing to think of a Democratic century ahead....done.)

3. Ironically, they'd be dumping Steele for the right reason

--because he's an embarrassment and an idiot (though I do give him props for hatin' on the renaming the Dem party resolution). On the other hand, they have an eager Ken Blackwell waiting in the wings. But on the OTHER other hand, if Blackwell were to get the nod, would it be because HE'S better qualified, or simply because he's black?
