I got two tickets because I'm a teacher and the event is for a foundation associated with the school. I wasn't even going to pick the tickets up until another teacher breathlessly asked me if I would please consider giving them to her parents "who just luuuve him" and she knew I was the only person she knew (and she grew up around here) who might not be interested in going. Meanwhile, I've seen only three or four bumper stickers I'd consider "pro-Democrat" or anti-Bush. Lots of "Keep the Change..." and "NoBama" stickers in this OIL TOWN. Some people even made a big bronze sculpture for him called "Freedom's Fire." Yuck.

I just wonder how many streets are going to be blocked off for this crap and how much I'll have to hear about it. Otherwise I don't care, really, except that I live among these people. Hey, at least we get out of school early, that's the upside. Oh, and the other upside is that I'm out of this place this summer. :)

edit: "pick up the tickets up"? Please.

1. can you go and hold up a newspaper in front of your face while reading it
preferably one with an appropriate message, but even holding up the classified upside-down would make a point. At my alma mater some fans would do that to piss off opposing sports teams. I don't recommend the throwing fish part.

5. Thanks, Cher. I've only been here two years, and that's all I will take.
I'm leaving this summer, as I said. Life is too short. :)

8. It is sad indeed. This fall a "science" "teacher" was distrubuting some outragerous anti-Obama
propaganda which one of my students showed me, and which I did complain about because it was so offensive and unprofessional. The other major science teacher took his kids on a field trip this fall to a "global warming" teaching session field trip sponsored by some major oil industry. Seriously. It made me want to puke.

The most recent eye-rolling experience (this week) was a history teacher who "lost" grades for students' papers, then assigned everyone a 75 because that was the class average. Understandably, my higher-performing students who had this teacher were upset. Turns out, he was "teaching them a lesson about socialism."

Can you believe this crap? I did tell my students who were talking about it, tactfully, that I PERSONALLY felt that this was a false analogy and why, but holy crap! They are brainwashing and misleading these kids. It is outrageous.

4. How funny it is to speak to people in such a different part of the world!
No one, and I mean NO ONE where I live would spit on him if he was on fire.

I think I'll stay right here. Blessings to you for having to listen to that bullshit.

7. I'm surprised that Dimson has the gall to...
...show his face in public and speak with authority on anything.

This must be a VERY Republican, Fundie city that you live in. I can't imagine that he would dare to
show his face in a normal part of the country.

13. I live in SE New Mexico.
Much as I love this state, there's a reason this region is called "Little Texas." :( And I AM moving away ASAP. Ironically enough, to Oklahoma. Yikes!

17. i don't know. he wrecked the economy and made us hated all over the world.
i wonder how many of these people he loves so much are unemployed or losing their homes. or have no healthcare. it never ceases to amaze me how people sabotage themselves by supporting people like that jerk.

18. Given the public profile he's kept since leaving office, will probably be a pretty boring speech.
