Women sought in daring TV theft from MO. Wal*Mart

Honestly, I don't understand the logistics of this. I mean, when I bought a $100 chest freezer, they checked my receipt at least three times, despite (or perhaps becuase of) the fact that I was being escorted by an employee.

How'd these enterprising women make off with a huge-ass TV without at least the door greeter asking to see their receipt?

1. Some guys stole a canoe from a store here awhile ago..
Just walked in, wandered for a bit, picked up the thing and portaged it through the door. I guess people figured something like that was way too brazen not to be legitimate and they got away with it.

Then they tried again with something else a couple days later and got nailed, providing a nice object lesson in Quitting While You're Ahead.

2. I heard of a guy who took something like
7 video game systems from some store, with fake money orders, and went back for an 8th and was busted. Why people do this and not think they'll be caught with these big items, eventually, is beyond understanding. It's not like swallowing a few grapes or taking a box of condoms - they're really watching for the big ticket things usually... I guess desperate and/or mental instability is a good enough of an answer as any.

19. I think it is a little pathetic
I mean, your greatest criminal ambition is to steal purses from women making minimum wage?

The article didn't mention that they're friends, but I suppose it's possible.

8. My partner told me this one:
Guy comes into the really busy store asks manager where the cappuccino makers were....she pointed him to the location...

Ten minutes later he walks up to the register to return the most expensive cappuccino maker in the place...$700.

Same manager approved the cash, no receipt return.

16. This happened at Macy's NYC some years ago
A uniformed crew entered Macy's, started to load some of the furniture in the window display onto trolleys and walked out of the store with it.

No one stopped them.

18. it happens
things can get missed in the hustle and bustle during peak hours, and that's what the theives rely on...and despite the looks to the contrary, security at most of the big box stores is pretty lax as opposed to a shopping mall -- for years, you used to be able to go in a Super K-Mart and shoplift whatever and leave out through the nursery exit...

20. For minimum wage, would you honestly give a shit?
I know I didn't when I worked at Walmart. If someone looked like they knew what they were doing I would have let them walk out the door with a pallet jack and a pallet full of TVs. Wouldn't have made a difference to me.

You'd be surprised what you can get away with if you act like you know what your doing.
