Missing woman in Simpsonville, SC--Du'ers, your thoughts?

May 21, 2009
Police examine phone records in search for missing Simpsonville woman

Authorities on Wednesday sifted through phone records and questioned anyone who might have last seen a Simpsonville woman who they say has been missing since the weekend and could have become a victim of foul play.

Julia Ann Vess, 48, of 10 Winding River Lane, was last seen Sunday and is considered missing, Greenville County Sheriff's Deputy Matthew Armstrong said.

“Investigators continue to research Vess' phone records and other activities that may be associated with her possible whereabouts,” Armstrong said Wednesday. “Investigators continue to contact individuals who may have seen or spoke with Vess shortly before or after her disappearance.”

On Tuesday, authorities searched from the air to try to locate Vess' car -- a 2004 silver Toyota Corolla with South Carolina license plate AGN-309.

Vess' husband, Larry Vess, told deputies that he left the couple's home Sunday morning and that his wife and her car was gone when he returned at about 1 p.m., Sheriff's Lt. Shea Smith said.

1. Beyond wishing her family well and hoping for a quick, positive resolution...
What thoughts would I have? I certainly do wish the best for her friends and family, I just don't know what you're after.

2. It reminds me of so many stories I've seen on 48 Hours Mystery.

Naturally, the husband is under examination, as is usual in this sort of case.

I guess to me it is of interest because this time it's in my area.

4. I do wish people and the police wouldn't leap to the conclusion that the husband is responsible.
I fully understand why, as that does tend to be the case, but I think in many of those cases, they investigate the husband to the expense of finding out what actually happened, some even going so far as to drum up evidence just to close the case (or because they've convinced themselves even without evidence).

6. Well, sure - probably should have said "spouse"
but in this case, it's the husband, which is why that term was used. I certainly did not mean to imply in any way that there was a gender bias in effect, and I apologize for being unclear.

3. Not good.
Look at the nearest and dearest unfortunately. Don't get run over by Nancy Grace on her way in.
